Abstract
324,578. Ostermeier, J. Feb. 28, 1929, [Convention date]. Magnesium and l i k e lamps. - A flash lamp suitable for photographic purposes comprises a gastight transparent bulb 1 containing a quantity of thin foil of oxidizable material and oxygen and a gas mixture containing oxygen, or a gas capable of yielding oxygen. The bulb after evacuation is charged with oxygen &c. to a pressure of about 150 millimetres of mercury through a tube 3. The foil 8 is ignited by passing an electric current through a combustible wire 6 and so heating an inflammable pellet 7. The foil may be of metal, metallic alloy, rare earth or organic materials, aluminium, copper, iron, nickel, phosphor-bronze, cerium and zirconium being stated to be suitable. The thickness of the foil is preferably about 0.0005 millimetres. The bulb may be provided with an internal or external screen to absorb a given portion of the spectrum of the emitted light or be made of a material which has such an absorbent action.
