Abstract

A positive displacement, rotary pump has a single rotor in a housing of circular cross-section with a discharge value fitted in the pump outlet. The pump may discharge to a grape harvest hopper fitted with a screw feeder delivering into the pump inlet. The rotor body is made of a (semi-) rigid material with its external working surface covered in a sleeve of flexible material, e.g. an elastomeric material such as natural rubber. Pref. the rotor housing cavity is fitted with a renewable, stainless steel liner, firmly keyed and bolted to the housing. Used for pumping liqs. carrying suspended solid particles, esp. grape harvest for wine making. Solid particles trapped between rotor and housing can be bedded into the flexible sleeve temporals until a clear path to the pump outlet becomes available, thus avoiding possible damage to rotor and housing. If a rotor sleeve or housing liner eventually does become damaged or badly worn, it is easily renewable.
