Abstract

A hammer milling process and a hammer mill installation are claimed. A considerable reduction is achieved in the power required to drive the mill on no load, i.e. running empty. This is done by inserting an air lock, pref. a rotary valve, in the raw materials inlet line to the mill, so that a negligible amt. of air is allowed to enter with the raw material. Pref. the outlet line from the mill is fitted with a supplementary air lock and the grinding chamber is piped to the suction side of a vacuum pump. Used for grinding up cereals, cattle caket etc. for use as animal feed. Reduced size and power requirements of hammer mills is obtd.
