Abstract

Mechanism for the controlled feeding of bar or tube workpieces (24) of a range of diameters from a ramp type magazine (22) to an auto-lathe, uses a feed tube (18) with diametrically opposed slots to receive workpieces in sequence and guide them to the machining station, the tube being fed through a gate actuated by a sliding sleeve and articulating linkage system. Workpieces are fed and retracted according to machine requirement. The sleeve is mounted to slide on a concentric shaft. The gate is of the claw commutator form permitting one only workpiece to advance at a time. A return pulley with recoil spring releases the sleeve using a dog mounted on an endless chain then the commutator claw returns to rest.
