Abstract
An automatic feed device for accurately positioning an article such as a ball pin in an induction hardening apparatus consists of an angled flight 4 for gravity feed of articles, a releasable gate 6 adjacent the flight for selectively feeding a single article to a hinged fork device, and a tapered collet 3 having a plurality of spring- loaded leaves to which single articles are sequentially passed by the hinged fork device. The collet is movable from a position under the fork device to a position under a ram 14, so that once it has received an article it is moved beneath the ram whereupon it is driven into its desired location, the resilient spring-loaded leaves of the collet gripping the ball pin as it passes through the collet thereby preventing mis-alignment. <IMAGE>
