Abstract

771,689. Lathe-details. LETAL, J. May 26, 1954 [May 27, 1953], No. 15512/54. Class 83 (3). Feed - mechanism for the tool-slides of automatic-lathes &c. comprises a control-cam and an adjusting - member, the setting of which can be continuously varied to control the time during which the tool is operative on the work, and a second adjusting-member for the continuouslyvariable adjustment of the length of the working-stroke of the tool, the adjustments being independent of one another and having interposed between them a sliding or rocking member which has a constant amplitude per revolution of the cam-shaft. A main cam-shaft 1 driven at constant speed carries a cam 2 which may be adjustable thereon for varying the timing of the machine. The cam, which is arranged for depth-of-cut feed, moves a twoarmed lever 3 through a follower-roller 4. The upper end of the lever is slotted for adjustment of a connecting-rod 5 which transmits motion to a lever 6. The free-end of the latter carries an adjustable stop which bears against a spring- pressed slide 7. This slide carries a plate 10 with an incline GI, which determines the quick approach of tool to work, and also carries an adjustable segmental-plate 9 with a further incline I, II which determines the cutting-stroke. Motion is transmitted from the inclines through a follower-roller 11 to a lever 12 and thence to the tool-slide 13. An adjustable feed transmission for the longitudinal movement of a tool is described also. Specifications 430,243, 678,749 and 678,750 are referred to.
