Abstract
767,999. Lathes; chucks; straightening. ESCO SOC. ANON. Sept. 24, 1954 [Sept. 30, 1953], No. 27611/54. Classes 83 (3) and 83 (4). A method of feeding wire-like material in an automatic-lathe with a revolving tool-head consists in moving a device 14, one way for straightening the material, and in the oppositedirection for feeding the material. As the device 14 moves rearwardly under the control of a cam 42, fixed members 19 on a body 16 rotated by a pulley 21 straighten the wire, which is held fast by a clamp 27 controlled by a cam 48. As the device moves forwardly, the wire is released by the clamp 27 and clamped by a collet 33, carried by the device 14 and actuated by a sleeve 35 controlled by a cam 36. The cam 36 co-operates with a fixed-cam 39 and is turned by a further rotary-cam, not shown. The wire is machined by a tool 8 and a length cut-off by a tool 9 on the revolving- head 3 as the device 14 is moved on its rearward stroke.
