Abstract
1,127,326. Automatic lathes; bar stock feeding. INDEX-WERKE K.G. HAHN & TESSKY. 22 Sept., 1965 [24 Oct., 1964], No. 40391/65. Headings B3B and B3T. A feeding device for automatic lathes comprises a piston and cylinder arrangement 38 which feeds workpieces 36 from a magazine 34 into the spindle 20 and which includes a switch having a first element movable to actuate a second element which in turn actuates the lathe, one of said elements being stationary and the other moving with a feeding rod 30 attached to the piston 44. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 1 the piston 44 is a permanent magnet and when the workpiece 36 is at its forward position as set by the stop 28 on the turret 24, it enters an induction coil transmitter 48 mounted around the cylinder 42 which emits an impulse which actuates the lathe to initiate a working cycle of operations. The cylinder 42 and piston rod 46 are made of non-magnetic material. In another form the switch may be operated by a cam and a second switch, which is operated only when the magazine is empty and the feed rod enters the spindle 20 without a workpiece, may be operated by the same cam immediately after the first switch.
