Abstract

901,232. Drilling. HULLER G.m.b.H., KARL. Oct. 10, 1960 [April 9, 1960], No. 34603/60. Class 83 (3). A deep hole drilling machine comprises means for rapidly traversing a tool-carrying table 11, feeding it to a given depth and rapidly returning it, the table carrying a rod 26 bearing a rapid traverse slide block 30 and a feed slide block 32, and the rapid traverse slide block carrying means to actuate a stationary switch and initiate feed by stopping the rapid traverse block and releasing the feed block. In the initial position, the block 32 abuts the block 30 which abuts a tappet 70 and depresses a safety switch 40. When the machine is switched on, the table 11, together with the spindle 15 and the blocks, advances to the work. When a ramp 44 on the block 30 engages a roller 57, a rod 54 is pushed downwardly to actuate a valve and initiate feed and a stop 60 is moved downwardly to disengage a stop 47 on the block 32 allowing it to move forwardly. After a short travel, the front face of the block 30 engages an adjustable stop 52 and slips on the rod 26. Feed continues until a projection 45 on the block 32 engages an adjustable switch 65 causing electromagnets to be operated to reverse the table at rapid traverse speed. As the table returns, a cam 76 on the far side of the table engages a switch 79 to reverse the table movement again. As the table advances, the stop 47 on the block 32 engages the stop 60 and the block slips on the rod 26 until the block 30 again depresses the roller 57 and the stop 60. The cycle is then repeated. The final depth of feed is determined by a cam 77 on the far side of the table actuating a switch 80, the final retracted movement and stopping of the machine being determined by another cam 75 actuating a switch 78. Actuation of the switch 80 raises the tappet 70 which engages the blocks 30, 32 as they return and slides them to their initial positions on the rod 26.
