Abstract

The machine is for use with bottles of plastic or light glass, having a crimping head adjustable for height on a column and with a plunger moving up and down and bearing against the top of the cap and also carrying a metal ring. A tubular component moves downwards round the ring to crimp the cap skirt against the bottle neck. The actuating mechanism is mechanically coupled to the tubular component and downward movement of the latter is transmitted via a compression spring to a piston carrying the plunger and the crimping ring. Downward movement of the piston is limited by a cap driven downwards by a spring until it strikes the crimping head mounting. After this further downward movement of the tubular component transmits no more effort to the piston and plunger, which are held back by the cap.
