Abstract

The sheet steel is punched into a hexagonal shape and has the six sides bent perpendicularly to form spanner flats (24). The inner diameter is divided into eight segments, one of which is removed to permit entry of the screwed bolt (26) and the rest are formed to give a screw thread so that adjacent segments have the axial pitch of the thread between them (14-16) but alternate segments generate a true thread (16-16). A variation on this nut may be used as a locking plate when bolting together two pieces of wood.
