Abstract

The grapple has two curved jaws each consisting of two parallel webs and swinging on fixed pins on the head. A horizontal ram (3) pivots at one end on the top end of one jaw (2b) on pin (9b) above the jaw pin (22b), and an inclined reaction rod (10) pivots on a pin (6a) at its lower end, on the other jaw (2a) below its pivot point (22a). The other end of the rod pivots on the other jaw above its pin (22b). The other end of the ram cam pivot on a pin (9a) solidly secured to the grab head, or on the other jaw (2a) above its pivots point.
