Abstract

The container is cylindrical and tapers towards its base. It is moulded in plastic or a metallic plastic and on its upper edges the two ridges are adjacent and define an annular groove between them. On the lateral edge of the rim is an outwardly projecting flange and this flange engages in the skirt of a shallow cover. Within the cover is a downwardly projecting ridge which lodges in the annular groove defined by the ridges on the container and provides a good seal, before the cover is heat sealed onto the container. When heat and pressure are applied the ridges coalesce without forming laterally projecting fingers.
