Abstract

The upper edge of a receptacle (2) suitable for food is turned over to provide an wide rim (15) over which the grooved edge (4) of the lid (3) fits tightly. The lid is of supple deformable plastics material. Over part of the periphery the top of the groove has upstanding corrugated walls (11) which, together with the rim, define a sealed space (12) when the lid is fitted. The walls can be deformed to squeeze out air and cause a depression which assist sealing. A tab (14) on the lid opposite the walls is provided for removing the lid.
