Abstract
Compsn. for the prepn. of an amino resin adhesive consists of (I) 15-25 pref. 20-25 wt.% urea, (II) 30-70 pref. 45-60 wt.% formaldehyde, (III) 4.5-10 pref. 4.5-6.5 wt.% melamine, (IV) 10-30 pref. 20-25 wt.% water, and (V) 0.05-4.0 pref. 0.1-1.0 wt.% stabilising agent which buffers the pH of the compsn. at 4.0-7.5 pref. 5.0-6.5. I is ammonium borate, sulphuric acids, hydrochloric acid, acetic acid, stearic acid, or pref. ammonium acetate or boric acid. The amino resin is prepd. by mixing 45-55 pts.wt. of the compsn. with 45-55 pt.wt. of a mixt. of 35-50 wt.% urea, 45-65 wt.% water and 0.5-3.0 wt.% catalyst. The catalyst is ammonium chloride, nitrate, phosphate, sulphate, Al phosphate or Al ammonium sulphate. The amino resin is used as binder in the prodn. of fibreboard. The resin contains 45-60 wt.% solids, and has a viscosity of 10-300 cp at 25 degrees C.
