Abstract

1421994 Plywood BORDEN (UK) Ltd 15 Jan 1973 [27 Jan 1972] 2115/73 Heading B5L [Also in Division C3] A plywood glue is obtained by adding urea to formaldehyde solution, which may already contain 0À1-0À25 moles of urea per mole of formaldehyde as an adduct, at 20-95‹ C. and pH 0À2-2, at 4-36 millimoles of urea/mole of CH 2 O/min to an F : U ratio of 2À5-3À5 : 1, continuing the condensation if desired, then adjusting the pH to 7-10. Further urea may then be added, to give an F : U ratio of 1À2- 1À8 : 1. In Example 4 birch panels are glued with a mixture of such resin solutions with wheat flour, water and a catalyst.
