Abstract

The web is fed through the nip of a first driven roller and a freely rotatable roller so that the freely rotatable roller is driven to rotate by the web at the same speed as the first driven roller. The leading edge of web engages a second driven roller rotating at a faster speed than the first driven roller and arranged at the exit of the nip, and the web passes between the second driven roller and the freely rotatable roller so that the freely rotatable roller is driven by the web to rotate at the same speed as the second driven roller. The speed differential produces a tension on the web which prevents creasing. The arrangement is used partic. for advancing leather panels, and operation effectively independently of the thickness or flexibility of the web.
