Abstract

The pile yarn is pref. advanced through a nozzle from which the air jet issues and is held in a loop by the air jet whilst it is gathered by the needle and knitted, with the knitting yarn, into a loop of the preceding course. The nozzle advances along the course as knitting proceeds. The knitting yarn may also be supplied through the nozzle or several pile yarns may be supplied through associated nozzles. The air jet may be controlled according to a programme to vary the size of the loop and so produce a patterned pile. Mechanical loop forming devices are eliminated.
