Abstract

The fabric comprises a knitted base web, formed pref. on a circular knitting machine, and having fibre, tufts knitted into alternate courses such that they extend from one face of the web. Pref. carded and combed fibre laps are fed to comb rollers arranged at points above the knitting machine so that as the vertical latch needles rise they gather fibre tufts from associated comb rollers and knit them into the base web. The fabric is produced economically and at a high production rate.
