Abstract

1320736 Knitting FORSCHUNGSINSTITUT FUR TEXTILTECHNOLOGIE 20 Oct 1970 49805/70 Headings D1C and D1K A method of knitting a pile fabric, e.g. a blanket, comprises the steps of feeding a preformed fibrous backing fabric 6 and a fibre fleece 7 to a stitch-bonding machine where the fleece is corrugated, and attached to the backing by knitting its fibres. Both surfaces of the fabric are raised to produce a plush. The backing 6 is itself a stitch-bonded fabric, and includes a layer of fibres 6b on the opposite side to the fleece. The backing and fleece are fed to opposite sides of a comb 14. The action of the needles I drawing fibres between the teeth of the comb corrugates the fleece. Fibres of the fleece are inserted into the needle hooks by brushes fixed to a rail 11 and are drawn through the backing and knitted into vertical wales. The two faces of the fabric may be of different colours and be long or short piled. The surfaces may be printed, sprayed or embossed.
