Abstract

In the prodn. of acetic acid from hydrocarbons by gas phase oxidn. the catalyst is made by treating tin, antimony, titanium, and aluminium ppts. together with vanadic acid before calcination with an oxidant, pref. H2O2, the treatment continuing until the ppts. are grey or green to yellow. The prods. exhibit good mechanical strength, allow the oxidn. to be carried out at lower temps, without affecting their selectivity.
