Abstract

1333306 Acetic acid MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 19 April 1971 [9 March 1970 13 March 1970] 24593/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division B1] Acetic acid is prepared by the oxidation of unsaturated hydrocarbons (4 C) with oxygen or molecular oxygen containing gas at 150-400‹ C. in the presence of a catalyst consisting of molybdenum, tin, oxygen and optionally vanadium. The catalyst is activated by heating at from 350‹ to 600‹ C. and has atomic ratios Mo a Sn b V c in which a+b+c is 100, a 5-90, b 5 to 80, and c 0 to 90. The reaction mixture may contain 1 -butene, 2-butene and iso-butene obtained from a thermal cracking process.
