Abstract

In a method of preparing dicyclohexyl ketone and cyclohexylphenyl ketone by the conversion of hexahydro benzoic acid or of an equimolecular mixture of hexahydro benzoic acid with benzoic acid at temperatures between 280 and 450 C. in the presence of metal oxides, in particular manganese oxide, dissolved in the corresponding acids, the reaction of the acids with metal oxide on the one hand and the conversion of the acids into the ketones on the other hand are executed in two successive stages to increase the activity of the catalyst and to increase the conversion ratio. The reaction of the acids with the metal oxide and their conversion whilst being done in two successive stages may be carried out in the same or separate reaction vessels.
