Abstract

Liquid compositions for the prodn. of metal casting cores or moulds consists of (I) an Al-contg. cement, optionally mixed with another compatible cement, (II) a water soluble, low mol. wt. resin contg. formaldehyde as curing agent, this resin gradually curing at room temp., (III) sand, (IV) a surface active agent, and (V) 0.1-1% wt. lithium chloride (on wt. of I), as agent for accelerating the setting of (I). The liquid compositions have a high degree of mouldability, and are suitable for the prodn. of complicated moulds. The compsns. are insensitive to the cast metal, have a low cost, and the moulds can be easily opened for removal of the casting.
