PROCEDIMIENTO SEMICONTINUO PARA LA PREPARACION DE SILICIO PURO. EN UN RECIPIENTE DE REACCION, SE DISPONE UNA ESCORIA FUNDIDA DE SILICATO DE UN METAL ALCALINOTERREO, POR EJEMPLO A BASE DE SILICATO DE CALCIO, SILICATO DE BARIO O SUS MEZCLAS, A LOS QUE SE PUEDEN AÑADIR UN 30% EN MOLES DE FLUORUROS DE METALES ALCALINOTERREOS. SE INTRODUCEN DISCONTINUAMENTE, A UNA TEMPERATURA DE REACCION DE 1420 A 1600 C, PORCIONES DE CUARZO Y ALUMINIO EN UNA RELACION MOLAR DE AL MENOS 3:4, PUDIENDOSE EMPLEAR ARENAS DE CUARZO CON TAMAÑO DE GRANOS DE 0,1 A 5 MM. SE SEPARA EL SILICIO RESULTANTE DE LA ESCORIA Y SE RETIRA, PARA SU REGENERACION, PARTE DE DICHA ESCORIA, LA CUAL CONTIENE UN 35 A 50% EN PESO DE OXIDO DE ALUMINIO, INTRODUCIENDOSE UNA CANTIDAD EQUIVALENTE DE ESCORIA DE NUEVA APORTACION. EL SILICIO SE EMPLEA COMO MATERIA PRIMA PARA CELULAS SOLARES TERRESTRES.
