Abstract

An electric hot plate comprises a substantially flat, thin-walled sheet metal plate (17) provided with grooves (18) in which flattened, tubular metal sheathed heating elements (12) are received and provide a heating surface on which cooking vessels can stand. Spaced protrusions 19 formed in the grooves 18 support the elements 12 clear of the walls of the grooves to minimise heat transfer. The hot plate is stated to be self-cleaning.
