Abstract

The lipid and nucleic acid content in microbial cell masses is decreased by treating the cell masses with an extraction mixture of ammonia or ammonium hydroxide and an organic solvent of the formula I. After the removal of the extraction mixture, the residue of the cell mass is washed with water and the aqueous phase is removed. The residue is then dried - optionally after extraction with an organic solvent of the formula I. The substituents in the formula I have the meanings given in Claim 1.
