Abstract

The invention comprises b -imino thioamides of the general formula <FORM:0835755/IV (b)/1> where R represents an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms and R1 is hydrogen or an alkyl group containing 1 to 4 carbon atoms. They may be prepared by treating the corresponding b -imino-nitrile with hydrogen sulphide in the presence of a nitrogeneous base and preferably in the presence of an inert organic solvent. In the examples b -iminothio-n-butyramide is prepared by saturating b -imino-n-butyronitrile with hydrogen sulphide in (1) pyridine at 0 DEG C., (2) triethylamine and pyridine, (3) ethanol saturated with ammonia, (4) dry diethyl ether and pyridine; (5) b -imino-a -methyl-n-butyramide is treated with hydrogen sulphide in pyridine for 15 hours at 39 DEG C. to give b - imino - a - methylthio - n - butyramide.
