Abstract

The invention comprises colchicoside amides of the formula <FORM:0739944/IV (b)/1> where R is hydrogen, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or aralkyl and R1 is hydrogen, alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, aralkyl, amino or arylamino, or R and R1 together form a saturated ring with the nitrogen atom. These are made by treating colchicoside with HNRR1, preferably in a solvent such as water, anhydrous or aqueous alcohol, or an excess of the amine reactant. In the examples the following are prepared: colchicosamide (R = R1 = H in above formula), N - methylcolchicosamide, N - ethyl - colchicosamide, N-propyl - colchicosamide, N - n - butyl - colchicosamide, N - n - amyl - colchicosamide, N - n - hexyl - colchicosamide, N : N - dimethylcolchicosamide, N : N - diethyl - colchicosamide, N - (b - hydroxyethyl) - colchicosamide, N : N - di - (b - hydroxyethyl) - colchicosamide, colchicoside hydrazide, colchicoside b - phenylhydrazide, N - benzyl - colchicosamide, N-benzhydryl - colchicosamide, N - (b - phenylisopropyl) - colchicosamide and colchicoside piperidide.
