Abstract
A method of making a spray bar dye applicator for a dye jet stamping apparatus, in which liquid dye is applied to a moving porous material, such as a pile fabric or a pile carpet, in individual dye streams, to form a pattern, comprising a support that extends transversely through the material path and a longitudinal dye applicator secured to the support and provided with at least one chamber that is continuously fed with liquid dye, and having a plurality of dye discharge ports arranged therealong to discharge dye from the chamber or chambers in the form of said dye streams, characterized in that a first applicator section is produced having an adaptation surface or substantially flat coupling and a cavity formed therein, a second applicator section having a mating or coupling surface substantially flat bearing and a cavity formed therein, because the mating surface of one of the applicator sections is formed with at least one groove extending from the respective cavity to an outer edge of that mating surface, and because the mating surfaces of the two applicator sections are adjusted to each other such that a dye applicator having a dye chamber therein is obtained, formed by the combination of the cavities of the two coupled applicator sections and one or more dye discharge holes formed by coupling the parts of the matching surfaces that delimit the or each groove of said first of the applicator sections with parts of the matching surfaces of the other applicator section.
