Abstract

A flat strip conductor, e.g. a tape cable, the flattened end of a wire conductor, or a printed circuit 29, may be electrically connected by inserting it into an insulating housing 21, a cam 25 with separate spring means 27 urging the strip 29 into contact with a conductive surface 30. With this arrangement, it requires less force to insert the strip 29 than to withdraw it. The surface 30 connected to a crimping ferrule 32 is resilient, and is bowed so that it abuts at 23, 24 and is locked in position. Alternatively, another sprung cam may provide the conductive surface (Fig. 1, not shown). The cam 25, of Cu, may have a serrated surface, or may be integrally formed with the housing 21, of plastics, being connected to the housing 21 at one end by a thin web about which it can rotate (Fig. 3, not shown). In this case, the spring is of inverted V-shape, one leg abutting the cam and the other the housing wall, a projection at its free end engaging a niche in the wall.
