Abstract
As shown, Fig. 4, a pen for applying a viscous magnetic ink to defective semi-conductor devices (see Division H1) comprises a reservoir cylinder 24 provided with a capillary feed tip 23. The surface of the ink in the reservoir is sealed by a piston comprising a ball bearing 39 and air at a regulated pressure is selectively applied to the cylinder above the piston. The air pressure is applied as the pen is lowered and causes the ink to form a drop at the end of the capillary, Fig. 5 (not shown), and when the surface to be marked is contacted the ink spreads out, Fig. 6 (not shown), to an extent determined by the spacing between the end of the capillary and the surface and upon the air pressure and the time for which it is applied. The air supply is cut off and the air line to the cylinder 24 is vented just before the pin is lifted, Fig. 7 (not shown).
