Abstract
<PICT:1103378/C1/1> Two electrically insulating parts 1, 2, of a vessel wall (especially a glass vacuum-discharge device) are joined together by a glaze 4. Metal conductors 5 extend through the seal and are formed on one part of the wall. In order to prevent deleterious action by the molten glaze on the conductors they are protected by a coating 6 of a metal oxide melting above 1600 DEG C. (Al2O3 or SiO2) and a thickness of from 0.1-1m A joining ring 3 spaces the parts. As disclosed the device is a character tube. The conductors 5 may be of silver, gold, platinum or nickel.
