Abstract
1309197 Copper alloy switch contacts INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ELECTRIC CORP 28 Oct 1971 50080/71 Heading C7A [Also in Division H1] Contacts for an electric vacuum switch are made from rods of copper containing between 0À003% and 0À5% by weight of boron. In preparing these rods the appropriate amount of boron is added to relatively pure (99À95% by weight) molten copper. It may be desired to add a small quantity of bismuth (between 0À1% and 1% by weight), in order to prevent premature arc- quenching. This may be done by melting the boron containing copper in a vacuum and adding the bismuth or by adding the bismuth by furnace diffusion either to the contact surface only or to the whole length of the rod.
