Abstract

The invention comprises D 4-9a -chloro- and -fluoro - 17a - methyl-3b :11b :17b -trihydroxyandrostenes and 3-esters thereof. They are prepared by reduction with a complex lightmetal hydride of the corresponding 3-ones with subsequent esterification if desired. Esters of saturated and unsaturated aliphatic, cycloaliphatic, aromatic and heterocyclic carboxylic acids, including amino-acids and halogencontaining acids, of sulphonic, phosphoric and sulphuric acids, and semi-esters of dicarboxylic acids in which the free carboxyl group may also be esterified, or salified with alkali metals or organic bases, are described. The androstenes of the invention, which are stated to be highly androgenic, may be made up with suitable carriers into pharmaceutical preparations. These may take the form of oily or aqueous solutions, ampoules, suspensions, emulsions, implants, tablets, dragees, ointments or creams, and may contain preservatives, stabilizers, wetting agents, salts for varying the osmotic pressure or buffers.
