Description
Implante espinal expansible.
La columna vertebral es una estructura muy
compleja que aloja y protege elementos críticos del sistema
nervioso. A pesar de estas complejidades, la columna vertebral es
una estructura muy flexible, capaz de un alto grado de curvatura y
torsión mediante una amplia variedad de movimientos. Las
irregularidades genéticas o del desarrollo, traumatismos, tensiones
crónicas, tumores y enfermedades, sin embargo, pueden dar como
resultado patologías espinales que limitan este intervalo de
movimiento o amenazan los elementos críticos del sistema nervioso
alojados dentro de la columna vertebral.
En diversos procedimientos quirúrgicos
ortopédicos es necesario estabilizar unas partes de la columna
vertebral respecto a otras. Esta necesidad típicamente es el
resultado de una enfermedad, lesión o deformación congénita. En un
método de tratamiento para la degeneración del disco intervertebral,
el hueco normal entre los cuerpos vertebrales adyacentes se
reestablece quirúrgicamente y se mantiene con un espaciador rígido
insertado entre los cuerpos. El espaciador rígido se rellena con un
material de injerto óseo para facilitar la fusión ósea de los dos
cuerpos vertebrales. Una fusión exitosa estabiliza la columna
vertebral, reduce la presión sobre la columna vertebral y las
raíces nerviosas y reduce o elimina el dolor de espalda.
Aunque los dispositivos conocidos para la fusión
espinal han resultado ser eficaces en diversas aplicaciones, sigue
habiendo una necesidad de implantes espinales que no requieran
grandes incisiones para el implante, que puedan aliviar tensiones
localizadas sobre placas vertebrales finales adyacentes y que puedan
evitar la migración y retropulsión dentro de la columna
vertebral.

La siguiente descripción de las diversas
realizaciones es meramente de naturaleza ejemplar y de ninguna
manera pretende limitar la invención, su aplicación o sus usos.
Con referencia inicial a la Figura 1 y la Figura
2, se ilustra un implante espinal ejemplar construido de acuerdo
con las presentes enseñanzas y se identifica de forma general con el
número de referencia 10. El implante espinal 10 se muestra asociado
operativamente con una columna vertebral humana 12. Más
específicamente, el implante espinal 10 se muestra situado entre
una primera vértebra 14a y una segunda vértebra 14b para estabilizar
la columna 12.
Con referencia continuada a las vistas
ambientales de las Figuras 1 y 2 y con referencia adicional de las
Figuras 3 a 7, el implante espinal 10 de la presente invención se
abordará en detalle. El implante espinal 10 se ilustra de manera
que generalmente incluye un primer miembro o primer miembro alargado
16 y un segundo miembro o segundo miembro alargado 18. Como
resultará más evidente a continuación, el primer miembro alargado
16 y el segundo miembro alargado 18 se acoplan entre sí para el
movimiento relativo entre una posición u orientación cerrada
(mostrada en la Figura 3) y una posición u orientación expandida
(mostrada en la Figura 2). Como se apreciará más completamente a
continuación, la orientación cerrada facilita la intersección del
implante espinal 10 en la columna 12 a través de una pequeña

segundo miembros alargados no necesariamente son idénticos, como se
ilustra en las Figuras 8-14 para otro implante
ejemplar 100 descrito a continuación.
En las Figuras 5A a 5C se proporcionan diversas
vistas diferentes del primer miembro alargado 16 en las que el
primer miembro alargado 16 está separado del segundo miembro
alargado 18. Como se observa en las Figuras 5A-5C,
el primer miembro de alargado 16 se ilustra de manera que incluye
una parte central o intermedia 20. La parte central 20 es
generalmente circular y se extiende hacia arriba desde una
superficie inferior del implante. La parte central 20 tiene una
altura igual a aproximadamente la mitad de la altura del implante
10. Como resultado, una superficie superior o interna 22 de la parte
central 20 se dispone aproximadamente en la línea media horizontal
del implante 10. La parte central 20 incluye también una superficie
inferior o externa 24.
Extendiéndose a través de la parte central 20,
entre las superficie superior 22 y la superficie inferior 24, hay
una ranura de paso 26. La ranura de paso 26 permite el crecimiento
hacia dentro del hueso a través del implante 10 para asegurar más
rígidamente el implante 10 dentro de la columna 12. La ranura de
paso 26 reduce también el peso del implante 10 mientras que
mantiene la resistencia del implante 10. Adicionalmente, la ranura
de paso 26 permite que el implante 10 lo sostenga y sitúe fácilmente
un médico usando instrumentación médica adecuada.
Extendiéndose de lados opuestos de la parte
central 20 hay un primer brazo 28 y un segundo brazo 30. En la
realización ilustrada, el primer brazo 28 y el segundo brazo 30 son
idénticos y generalmente se extienden tangencialmente desde la
parte central 20. El primer brazo 28 y el segundo brazo 30
preferiblemente se extienden desde la parte central 20 paralelos
entre sí, pero están ligeramente desviados unos de otros. Como se
observa mejor en la Figura 5B, cada uno del primer brazo 28 y el
segundo brazo 30 incluye una pared superior 32, una pared inferior
34, una pared externa 36 y una pared interna 38. La pared interna 38
se extiende desde la superficie inferior 24 de la parte central 20
hasta una distancia que es dos veces la distancia entre la
superficie superior 22 y la superficie inferior 24 para acomodar la
parte central 20 del segundo miembro alargado 18, como se describe

Como se observa más claramente la Figura 5B,
dentro de ambos el primer brazo 28 y el segundo brazo 30, hay una
abertura central o ventana 40. La ventana 40 se define mediante la
pared superior 32, la pared inferior 34, la pared externa 36 y la
pared interna 38. La ventana 40 reduce el peso del implante 10 y
permite el crecimiento hacia dentro del hueso a través del primer
brazo 28 y el segundo brazo 30 para asegurar mejor el implante 10
dentro de la
columna 12.

La pared superior 32 incluye una cara superior
42 que define parcialmente una superficie de contacto superior 44.
La pared inferior 34 incluye una cara inferior 46 que define
parcialmente una superficie de contacto inferior 48. La superficie
de contacto superior 44 y las superficies de contacto inferior 48
preferiblemente son de forma convexa. Como alternativa, las
superficies de contacto superior e inferior 44 y 48 pueden ser
planas o de forma cónica.
Tanto la superficie de contacto superior 44 como
la superficie de contacto inferior 48 están formadas preferiblemente
para incluir una pluralidad de dientes 50. Los dientes 50 se
extienden hacia la parte central 20. Cuando el implante 10 está en
su orientación expandida (como se muestra en la Figura 7, por
ejemplo) los dientes 50 de los diversos brazos 38 y 30 del implante
se disponen concéntricamente. Además, como se observa más claramente
en la Figura 5A, los dientes 50 forman una inclinación en la
dirección de la extensión del implante 10 desde la posición cerrada
hacia a la posición abierta para facilitar la expansión del implante
10 y facilitar la inserción del implante 10 dentro de la columna
12. Los dientes inclinados 50 sirven para evitar que el implante 10
migre y evitar la retropulsión de la columna.
Con referencia particular a la Figura 4, la
Figura 6 y la Figura 7, se describirá ahora el acoplamiento del
primer miembro alargado 16 con el segundo miembro alargado 18. El
primer miembro alargado 16 y el segundo miembro 18 se acoplan de
manera que la superficie interna 22 del primer miembro 16 y la
superficie interna 22 del segundo miembro 18 están en contacto
entre sí. Adicionalmente, cada uno del primer brazo 28 y el segundo
brazo 30 del primer miembro alargado 16 está situado entre el primer
brazo 26 y el segundo brazo 30 del segundo miembro alargado 18, de
manera que los brazos 28 y 30 del primer miembro alargado 16 se
alternan con los brazos 28 y 30 del segundo miembro alargado 18.
El primer miembro 16 y el segundo miembro 18 se
acoplan giratoriamente entre sí para el movimiento relativo
alrededor de un eje de rotación R (identificado en la Figura 4). El
eje de rotación R se extiende a través de la parte central 20,
generalmente perpendicular a la superficie de contacto 44 y la
superficie de contacto inferior 48. Este acoplamiento giratorio
permite la rotación relativa del primer miembro 16 y el segundo
miembro 18 entre la posición cerrada y la posición abierta. El
primer miembro 16 y el segundo miembro 18 giran típicamente entre
la posición cerrada y la posición abierta cuando un cirujano usa la
instrumentación de quirófano apropiada.
Los miembros alargados 16 y 18 se ilustran
acoplados juntos en la posición cerrada en la Figura 6. En la
posición cerrada, el primer brazo 28 del primer miembro alargado 16
se sitúa paralelo a y adyacente al segundo brazo 30 del segundo
miembro alargado 18. Adicionalmente, el segundo brazo 30 del primer
miembro 16 se sitúa paralelo a y adyacente al primer brazo 28 del
segundo miembro alargado 18. La colocación de los brazos 28 y 30 del
primer miembro alargado 16 paralelo y adyacente a los brazos 28 y
30 del segundo miembro alargado 18 proporciona al implante 10 con
un perfil fino y compacto que permite que el implante 10 se inserte
fácilmente dentro de la columna 12 requiriendo solo una alteración

Con referencia particular a la Figura 4 y la
Figura 7, el primer miembro alargado 16 y el segundo miembro
alargado 18 se muestran acoplados juntos en la posición abierta. En
la posición abierta el primer brazo 28 del primer miembro alargado
16 se sitúa lejos de y en una relación no paralela respecto al
segundo brazo 30 del segundo miembro alargado 18. Igualmente, el
segundo brazo 30 del primer miembro 16 se sitúa lejos de y en una
relación no paralela respecto al primer brazo 28 del segundo miembro
alargado 18. Generalmente, en la posición abierta el primer miembro
16 y el segundo miembro 18 se correlacionan de manera que los brazos
28 y 30 del primer miembro 16 y los brazos 28 y 30 del segundo
miembro 18 tienen una configuración global que se aproxima a la de
una "X". Esta configuración con forma de "X" proporciona
al implante 10 una gran cantidad de resistencia para soportar las
vértebras 14 de la
columna 12.

Cada uno del primer miembro alargado 16 y el
segundo miembro alargado 18 comprende adicionalmente un par de
salientes 52 y un par de huecos cooperantes 54. Los salientes 52 se
extienden desde la cara superior 42 y los huecos 54 se localizan
dentro de la superficie externa 24 de la parte central 20. Los
huecos 54 tienen una pared lateral 56 y una superficie de retención
58 (véase la Figura 5B). Como el primer y segundo miembros
alargados 16 y 18 se hacen girar desde la posición cerrada hasta la
posición abierta, los salientes 52 giran dentro de los huecos 54 de
manera que cada saliente 52 contacta tanto con la pared lateral 56
como con la superficie de retención 58.
Como se observa más claramente en la Figura 4A y
la Figura 7, la cooperación entre los salientes 52 del primer
miembro alargado 16 y los huecos 54 del segundo miembro alargado 18,
así como la cooperación entre los salientes 52 del segundo miembro
alargado 18 y los huecos 54 del primer miembro alargado 16, asegura
que el primer miembro alargado 16 permanecerá acoplado al segundo
miembro alargado 18 cuando el implante 10 está en la posición
abierta. Específicamente, la interacción entre los salientes 52 y la
superficie de retención 58 evita que el primer miembro 16 y el
segundo miembro 18 se separan verticalmente a lo largo del eje de
rotación R del implante 10.
Para asegurar el implante 10 en la posición
abierta, el implante 10 incluye adicionalmente un mecanismo de
bloqueo. El mecanismo de bloqueo es preferiblemente un mecanismo de
bloqueo activo compuesto por un brazo o pieza mecánica 60 que se
extiende desde la parte central 20 tanto del primer miembro 16 como
del segundo miembro 18. La pieza mecánica 60 es flexible,
preferiblemente una ballesta y puede moverse entre luna posición
neutra (como se muestra en la Figura 5C) y una posición plegada
(como se muestra en la Figura 6C).
Como se observa en la Figura 6, en la posición
cerrada la pieza mecánica 60 del segundo miembro 18 se pliega de
forma elástica contra la pared interna 38 del primer miembro 16.
Igualmente, en la posición cerrada la pieza mecánica 60 del primer
miembro 16 se pliega de forma elástica contra la pared interna 38
del segundo miembro 18 (no mostrada particularmente). Como el
primer miembro 16 y el segundo miembro 18 se hacen girar desde la
posición cerrada a la posición abierta, las piezas mecánicas 60 y 60
vuelven de forma elástica de más allá de las paredes internas 38 y
38, respectivamente.
En la posición abierta las piezas mecánicas 60
automáticamente se extienden hacia sus pociones neutras, ya que las
piezas mecánicas 60 no están ya restringidos por las paredes
internas 38. En su posición neutra, la pieza mecánica 60 del primer
miembro alargado 16 se apoya en la superficie externa 62 de la pared
interna 38 del segundo miembro alargado 18. Similarmente, la pieza
mecánica 60 del segundo miembro alargado 18 se apoya en una
superficie externa 62 de la pared interna 38 del primer miembro
alargado 16 para evitar que el implante 10 vuelva a su posición
cerrada. El implante 10 sólo puede volver a la posición cerrada si
se aplica presión a las piezas mecánicas 60 para hacerles volver a
su estado plegado donde ya no contactan más con las superficies
externas correspondientes 62 respectivamente y cada una retrocede de
nuevo por debajo de la pared interna 38 del miembro alargado
opuesto 14 ó 16.
Se describirá ahora una implementación ejemplar
del implante 10 de la presente invención dentro de la columna 12.
Antes de insertar el implante 10, la columna 12 debe prepararse para
recibir el implante 10 por parte del cirujano que opera. La
preparación de la columna 12 implica hacer una pequeña incisión
posteriormente dentro de la dura. Las vértebras adyacentes 14 se
desvían para volver al espaciado normal y el disco intervertebral
se retira. Una vez que la columna 12 se ha preparado, el implante
10, orientado en la posición cerrada, se inserta entre la primera
vértebra 14a y la segunda vértebra 14b. Insertar el implante 10 en
la posición cerrada sólo requiere una pequeña incisión en la dura
madre y sólo una alteración mínima de la columna 12, manteniendo de
esta manera la integridad de las vértebras 14 y permitiendo al
cirujano hacer un uso más eficaz del tiempo del quirófano. Cuando
se sitúa en la orientación abierta (Figura 2), el implante espinal
10 estabiliza la columna 12 y facilita la fusión de un par de
vértebras adyacentes 14.
Después de que el implante 10 se haya instalado
apropiadamente dentro de la columna 12, el primer miembro 16 y el
segundo miembro 18 se hacen girar desde la posición cerrada hasta la
posición abierta de manera que el implante 10 puede proporcionar el
soporte requerido entre las vértebras adyacentes 14. La rotación del
implante 10 desde la posición cerrada la efectúa el cirujano que
atiende usando instrumentación de quirófano adecuada. El implante
10 se mantiene en la posición abierta mediante la interacción entre
las piezas mecánicas 60 y las superficies externas cooperantes,
respectivamente.
La rotación del implante 10 hacia la posición
abierta se facilita mediante los dientes inclinados 50, que están
inclinados en la dirección de la expansión del implante 10 desde la
posición cerrada hasta la posición abierta. Los dientes inclinados
50 ayudan también a mantener el implante 10 en la posición abierta.
Adicionalmente, los dientes inclinados 50 ayudan a mantener el
implante 10 en su posición apropiada entre las vértebras 14.
La vértebras adyacentes 14 pueden soportarse
opcionalmente mediante múltiples implantes 10. El proceso para
insertar múltiples implantes 10 es sustancialmente idéntico al
proceso descrito anteriormente para insertar un solo implante 10,
con la excepción de que se inserta al menos un implante adicional 10
entre las vértebras 14 durante el proceso de inserción. El uso de
múltiples implantes 10 es ventajoso puesto que los múltiples
implantes 10 proporcionan un soporte adicional a las vértebras 14
para dispersar adicionalmente las cargas de tensión.
El implante 10 puede ser diversos tamaños
diferentes para ajustarse apropiadamente a pacientes que tienen
columnas 12 y vértebras 14 de diferentes tamaños. El tamaño del
implante 10 puede variar de numerosas maneras diferentes. Por
ejemplo, el primer miembro alargado 16 y el segundo miembro alargado
18 pueden ser de diversas longitudes diferentes para soportar
vértebras 14 de diferentes áreas superficiales. Adicionalmente, el
primer miembro alargado 16, el segundo miembro alargado 18 y las
partes centrales 20 pueden ser de diferentes alturas para soportar
las vértebras 14 que están espaciadas a distancias variables entre
sí.
El implante 10 puede fabricarse a partir de
cualquier material biocompatible que sea adecuadamente rígido para
soportar la presiones ejercidas sobre el implante 10 por las
vértebras 14. Los ejemplos de materiales que pueden usarse para
fabricar el implante 10 incluyen, aunque sin limitación titanio y
aloinjerto óseo. Como se muestra a través de los dibujos, cada uno
del primer miembro 16 y el segundo miembro 18 comprende,
preferiblemente, una sola estructura unitaria.
Haciendo referencia a las Figuras
8-14, se ilustra otro implante espinal ejemplar 100
de acuerdo con las presente enseñanzas. Los elementos de implante
100 que corresponden de alguna manera a los elementos de implante 10
se designan con los mismos números de referencia, aunque van
precedidos por el número 1. Se omite la descripción repetitiva
detallada de los elementos o características que pueden ser
idénticos en los implantes 10 y 100.
Haciendo referencia a las Figuras
8-10, el implante 100 incluye un primer y un segundo
miembros alargados 116, 118 conectados giratoriamente entre sí
mediante un miembro de giro 210 para rotación relativa entre ellos
alrededor de un eje giro R, de manera que el implante 100 puede
expandirse desde una orientación cerrada ilustrada en la Figura 9A
hasta una orientación abierta (expandida) ilustrada en la Figura 10.
En la orientación cerrada, el primer y segundo miembros 116, 118
son sustancialmente paralelos, mientras que en la orientación
abierta el primer y segundo miembros 116, 118 están a un ángulo que
define sustancialmente una forma de "X". El primer miembro
alargado 116 tiene un primer y segundos brazos 128, 130 que se
interconectan con una parte central 120. El segundo miembro
alargado tiene un primer y segundo brazos 128', 130' que se
interconectan con una parte central 120'. Los huecos 172, 172' se
definen respectivamente en las partes centrales 120, 120' del
primer y segundo miembros 116, 118 de manera que los huecos 172,
172' están desfasados en la orientación cerrada y alineados en la
orientación abierta.
Haciendo referencia a las Figuras
11A-C y 14A-B, el primer brazo 128
del primer miembro alargado 116 o, más generalmente, al menos uno
de los brazos 128, 130, 128', 130', pueden adaptarse para definir
una perforación roscada internamente 164 para la acomodación de un
miembro de bloqueo 160 en su interior. El miembro de bloqueo 160
puede ser una sujeción, tal como un tornillo roscado externamente,
como se ilustra en las Figuras 13A y 13B y puede conectarse de
forma roscada con las roscas internas de la perforación 164.
El miembro de bloqueo 160 puede incluir una
parte final o protuberancia 170 y una cabeza 172 con una formación
de engranaje o superficie 174. El miembro de bloqueo 160 puede
desplegarse para asegurar el implante 100 en la orientación abierta
engranando el primer brazo 128 del primer miembro 116 con la parte
central 120' del segundo miembro 118, cuando el implante 100 está
en la orientación abierta. En la orientación abierta, los huecos
172, 172' en las partes centrales 120, 120' del primer y segundo
miembros 116, 118 quedan alineados y definen un orificio 168 que
recibe una parte final 170 del miembro de bloqueo 160. El miembro de
bloqueo 160 puede desplegarse usando un destornillador o
herramienta similar que se inserta en la perforación interna 164
del primer brazo 128 y que funciona para conectar la formación de
conexión 174 y hacer girar el miembro de bloqueo 160, haciendo de
esta manera que el miembro de bloqueo 160 avance hacia el orificio
128 y asegure positivamente el implante 100 en la orientación
abierta.
Haciendo referencia a las Figuras 14A y B, el
miembro de giro 210 puede ser, por ejemplo, una sujeción, tal como
un tornillo o un perno, que engrane las aberturas 117, 119 en las
partes centrales respectivas 120, 120' del primer y segundo miembro
116, 118 para rotación relativa entre ellas. El miembro de giro 210
puede incluir un cabezal 212 y un vástago escalonado 214 que se
recibe en las aberturas centrales 117, 119 de las partes centrales
120, 120' del primer y segundo miembro 116, 118. El miembro de giro
210 puede incluir una formación de cabezal 216 para recibir una
herramienta para hacer girar el primer y segundo miembros desde la
orientación cerrada hasta la orientación abierta después del
implante.
Haciendo referencia a las Figuras 11B y 12B,
todo excepto el primer brazo 128 del primer miembro 116 puede
incluir aberturas o ventanas 140 para promover el crecimiento hacia
dentro. Los segundos brazos 130, 130' del primer y segundo miembros
116, 118 pueden ser idénticos. El primer miembro 128' del primer
miembro 116 puede ser más ancho en sección transversal que el
primer brazo 128' del segundo miembro 118 para acomodar la
perforación interna 164 que recibe al miembro de bloqueo 160, aunque
el implante 100 en la orientación cerrada puede tener una W total
sustancialmente constante, como se muestra en la Figura 9. La
perforación roscada 164 del primer brazo 128 puede recibir un
instrumento para insertar/desplegar el implante 100. Las
superficies superior e inferior de los brazos 128, 130, 128', 130'
pueden incluir una pluralidad de dientes 150 para engranar las
vértebras adyacentes como se ha descrito anteriormente en relación
con el implante ejemplar 10.
Similarmente al implante 10, el implante 100
puede insertarse en la columna 12 en la orientación cerrada a
través de una pequeña incisión. Después del implante, el primer y
segundo miembro 116, 117 se hacen girar alrededor del eje central
R, uno respecto al otro, para llevar al implante 100 a la
orientación abierta. El implante 100 se bloquea entonces
positivamente en la orientación abierta desplegando el miembro de
bloqueo 160 usando un destornillador o herramienta adecuada.
Se apreciará que los implantes 10 y 100 son
ilustraciones meramente ejemplares, de manera que diversas
características del implante ejemplar 10 pueden incorporarse en el
implante ejemplar 100 y viceversa.
Claims (17)
1. Un implante espinal expansible (10) que
comprende:
un primer miembro (16) y un segundo miembro
(18)
estando acoplados giratoriamente el primer y
segundo miembros entre sí para movimiento relativo alrededor de un
eje de rotación (R) entre una posición cerrada para insertar el
implante (10) en una columna (12) y una posición expandida para
proporcionar soporte estructural a la columna (12), extendiéndose el
eje de rotación generalmente perpendicular a las superficies de
contacto superior e inferior (44, 48) del implante
caracterizado por que
el primer miembro (16) tiene un primer y segundo
brazos (28, 30), el primer y segundo brazos (28, 30) del primer
miembro (16) incluyen ambos una cara superior (42) que define
parcialmente la superficie de contacto superior (44) del implante
(10) y una cara inferior (46) que define parcialmente la superficie
de contacto inferior (48) del implante (10);
y el segundo miembro (18) tiene un primer y
segundo brazos (28, 30) incluyendo el primer y segundo brazos (28,
30) del segundo miembro (18) ambos una cara superior (42) que define
parcialmente la superficie de contacto superior (44) del implante
(10) y una cara inferior (46) que define parcialmente la superficie
de contacto inferior (48) del implante (10);
y el primer y segundo miembros (16, 18) incluyen
ambos una parte central (20) entre el primer y segundo brazos
respectivos (28, 30), estando las partes centrales (20) del primer y
segundo miembros (16, 18) acopladas giratoriamente.
2. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 1, en el que el primer y segundo brazos (28, 30) del
primer miembro (16) son paralelos y están espaciados uno respecto a
otro y el primer y segundo brazos (28, 30) del segundo miembro (18)
son paralelos y están espaciados uno respecto al otro.
3. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 1, en el que el primer brazo (28) del primer miembro
(16) es paralelo a y adyacente al segundo brazo (30) del segundo
miembro (18) en la posición cerrada.
4. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 1, en el que el segundo miembro está completamente
separado del primer miembro.
5. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 1, en el que cada uno de los brazos (28, 30) define
una ventana (40) para facilitar el crecimiento hacia dentro del
hueso.
6. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 1, en el que el primer y segundo miembros (16, 18)
se construyen de aloinjerto óseo.
7. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 1, que comprende adicionalmente un mecanismo de
bloqueo (60) para detener el movimiento relativo entre el primer y
segundo miembros (16, 18).
8. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 7, en el que el mecanismo de bloqueo (60) detiene
automáticamente el movimiento relativo entre el primer y segundo
miembros (16, 18) en respuesta al movimiento desde la posición
cerrada a la posición expandida.
9. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 8, en el que el primer y segundo miembros (16, 18)
son sustancialmente idénticos.
10. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 7, en el que el mecanismo de bloqueo (60) se
despliega manualmente para bloquear el implante expansible (10) en
la posición expandida.
11. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 1, en el que cada una de las caras superior (42)
del primer y segundo brazos (28, 30) del primer miembro (16) y el
primer y segundo brazos (28, 30) del segundo miembro (18) define
una pluralidad de dientes (50), estando los dientes (50) orientados
concéntricamente cuando el primer y segundo miembros (16, 18) se
hacen girar hacia la posición expandida.
12. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 7, en el que el mecanismo de bloqueo (60) se forma
integralmente con al menos uno del primer y segundo miembros (16,
18).
13. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 12, en el que el mecanismo de bloqueo (60) comprende
una ballesta que migra a un estado neutro en respuesta a la rotación
relativa del primer y segundo miembros (16, 18) desde la posición
cerrada hacia la posición expandida para prohibir la rotación
relativa de vuelta a la posición cerrada.
14. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 7, en el que las partes centrales (20) del primer y
segundo miembros (16, 18) son generalmente cilíndricas.
15. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 10, en el que el mecanismo de bloqueo (60) comprende
una sujeción que puede accionarse para engranar el primer miembro
(16) con el segundo miembro (18) en la posición expandida.
16. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 15, en el que el primer brazo (28) del primer
miembro (16) incluye una perforación roscada (164) para almacenar la
sujeción en la posición cerrada.
17. El implante espinal expansible (10) de la
reivindicación 16, en el que la parte central (20) del segundo
miembro (18) incluye un hueco (172') para engranar la sujeción en la
posición expansible.
