Abstract
El invento se refiere a un vidrio con alto contenido en óxido de zirconio, así como a sus utilizaciones. Se describen vidrios con alto contenido en óxido de zirconio sobre todo en conexión con fibras de vidrio resistentes a los álcalis, destinadas a reforzar al hormigón. En comparación con el vidrio-E, que es un vidrio de alumino-boro-silicato ampliamente exento de álcalis, las fibras a base de los conocidos vidrios con un contenido en ZrO2 presentan ciertamente una más alta estabilidad frente a los álcalis, pero sigue siendo todavía insuficiente en particular su estabilidad en el cemento durante largos períodos de tiempo. Es de importancia la estabilidad frente a los álcalis de las fibras que refuerzan al hormigón, y por consiguiente ésta predomina en la mayor parte de los casos en el desarrollo de los vidrios, puesto que el fraguado del cemento se efectúa en condiciones fuertemente alcalinas (a unos valores del pH hasta de aproximadamente 12, 5).
