Abstract

La invención se refiere a un revestimiento para cables que el capaz de proteger el cable contra impactos accidentales. Insertando dentro de la estructura de un cable de transmisión de energía un revestimiento adecuado de material polimérico expandido de un grosor adecuado, preferiblemente en contacto con la cubierta del revestimiento polimérico, es posible obtener un cable que tenga una alta resistencia a los impactos. También se ha observado que un material polimérico expandido utilizado como revestimiento para cables hace posible obtener una mayor resistencia al impacto para este cable que utilizando un revestimiento similar basado en el mismo polímero que no esté expandido. Un cable con un revestimiento de este tipo tiene diferentes ventajas sobre un cable tradicional con armadura de metal, tal como, por ejemplo, un procesamiento más fácil, una reducción en el peso y las dimensiones del cable finalizado y un menor impacto medio ambiental en lo que se refiere al reciclado del cable una vez que haya finalizado su ciclo de trabajo.
