Abstract
La presente invención se refiere a una capa protectora para cables que es capaz de proteger a los cables frente a impactos accidentales. Al insertar en la estructura de un cable de transmisión de electricidad una capa protectora adecuada hecha de un material polímero expandido de espesor adecuado, preferentemente en contacto con la vaina de la capa protectora de polímero externa, es posible obtener un cable que tiene gran resistencia al impacto. Un cable con una capa protectora de esta clase tiene varias ventajas sobre un cable convencional con armadura metálica, como por ejemplo, un procesamiento más fácil, la reducción en el peso y en las dimensiones del cable terminado y un impacto ambiental menor en lo relativo al reciclaje del cable una vez que su ciclo de funcionamiento haya llegado a su fin.
