Definitions
- the present invention relates to an antenna element and an antenna array.
- Radar devices make it possible to precisely determine the relative speeds of objects and, when using suitable modulation methods, distances or angular positions of the objects. For this reason, radar devices are widely used in automobiles.
- Patch antennas are typically used in the gigahertz range. These can be provided particularly easily and inexpensively on high-frequency substrates.
- a metal surface which has a length of about half the wavelength of the radar radiation, serves as a resonator.
- the radiating element can be a single patch, for example.
- better focusing of the radar beams is often required, i. H. an improved directional characteristic with narrower lobes.
- Several patches are therefore combined in panel antennas. In such an antenna array, all patches are coupled to a common source that feeds electrical power to the patches. In this case, the coupling can take place in parallel or also in series by means of a power divider network.
- the antenna elements or antennas are typically designed in such a way that the main lobe or main transmission direction of the transmitted radar radiation runs perpendicularly to the substrate. In some applications, however, it can be advantageous to adapt the directional characteristics of the antennas so that the main transmission direction is not perpendicular to the substrate but encloses a certain angle. Such an adaptation of the directional characteristic can be advantageous in particular in the case of radar devices which are arranged in the rear area of a vehicle or in the corner areas.
- More antenna arrays are from JP 2001/111332 A and the U.S. 2016/0248159 A1 known.
- Microstrip antennas are discussed in Hayashi et al., "Millimeter-wave Microstrip Comb-Line Antenna Using Reflection-Canceling Slit Structure", IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, Vol. 59, No. 2, 2011, pages 398-406 .
- Antenna arrangements for use in the automotive sector are dealt with in Wu, "76-81 GHz planar antenna development and utilization for automotive radar applications", 2016 .
- Dipole antennas are discussed in Balmain et al., "Asymmetry phenomenon of log-periodic dipole antennas", IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1976, pp. 402-410 .
- phased array antennas A well-known mechanism for achieving strong directivity is phased array antennas. These are phased array antennas with a large number of individual radiators arranged in a matrix, with a phase angle of the individual radiators being adjustable. With suitable control, the transmission energy can be amplified in the desired direction by constructive interference and reduced or eliminated in undesired directions by destructive interference.
- phased array antennas require relatively complex mechanisms for adjusting the phases of the respective individual radiators. As a result, such antennas are typically relatively expensive and complex to manufacture. Phased array technology is therefore often found in the military sector, but the possible uses for automotive applications are rather limited.
- the invention provides an antenna element having the features of patent claim 1 and an antenna array having the features of patent claim 10 .
- a desired directional effect can be achieved even for a single antenna element.
- the constructive and destructive interference of the emitted radar waves is responsible for this. Since the radiating elements are distributed differently on the two sides of the feed line, the overall result is a main lobe that deviates from the perpendicular direction of the substrate. Thus, a highly sensitive antenna can be provided.
- the antenna element is also characterized by a compact design, since additional phase splitters are not required. This is particularly advantageous in the automotive sector, where the available space must be optimally utilized.
- spatial dimensions can be understood to mean a width and a length of the corresponding emitting element.
- the spatial dimensions can be understood to mean, for example, the diameters or surface areas of the emitting elements.
- a distribution of the spatial dimensions is to be understood as meaning the sequence of the dimensions along the feed line. Different distributions therefore preferably mean that the radiating elements are not only arranged offset to one another on the two sides of the feed line, but rather at least at one point the sequences of the distances or dimensions of the radiating elements on one side do not match the corresponding sequences of the distances or dimensions of the radiating elements the other side can be reconciled.
- the antenna element is preferably a panel antenna which is arranged flat on a substrate.
- a sufficiently high radiation power can be achieved in a wide angular range by a suitable choice of the dimensions and the spacing of the radiation elements.
- the distributions of the dimensions and/or distances include a Dolph-Chebyshev distribution and/or a binomial distribution.
- the distributions of the dimensions include a uniform distribution.
- the emitting elements of the first plurality and/or the second plurality of emitting elements are embodied as slotted patches.
- the radiation elements are coupled to the feed line via strip lines. According to further embodiments, however, the radiation elements can also be coupled to the feed line by means of capacitive couplings and/or slot couplings.
- the antenna element is designed as a dipole antenna element.
- the feed line and/or the radiation elements are designed as strip elements.
- the antenna element can thus in particular be a strip line antenna element.
- the first multiplicity of emitting elements is arranged offset relative to the second multiplicity of emitting elements along the feed line.
- the distances between the radiating elements on both sides can be constant or have the same distribution, while the dimensional distributions differ.
- the dimensions of the radiating elements on both sides can be constant or have the same distribution, while the distributions of the distances between consecutive antenna elements for the two sides, i. H. for the first plurality of radiating elements and the second plurality of radiating elements.
- At least one emitting element of the first plurality of emitting elements differs from all emitting elements of the second plurality of emitting elements in width and/or the distance to an adjacent emitting element of the first plurality of emitting elements.
- the distributions of the dimensions and/or distances are selected in such a way that an emission maximum of the emitted electromagnetic radiation occurs in an emission direction that deviates from a vertical direction.
- the antenna element 1a is configured as a panel antenna element formed on a substrate (not shown).
- the antenna element 1a can be designed as a radar transmission device or as a radar receiver device.
- the antenna element 1a can also be an element of an antenna array.
- the antenna element 1a has a feed line 2 running in a straight line, which is designed as a strip line.
- the feed line 2 does not necessarily have to run in a straight line.
- the flat feed line 2 has radiating elements 31 to 36 and 41 to 46 which are arranged on a first or left side of the feed line 2 and a second or right side of the feed line 2 .
- the radiating elements 31 to 36 and 41 to 46 are designed as patches which are connected or coupled directly to the feed line 2 .
- the invention is not limited to such an embodiment.
- the radiating elements 31 to 36 and 41 to 46 can be coupled to the feed line via coupling elements, for example strip elements connected to the feed line 2 .
- the radiating elements 31 to 36 and 41 to 46 can also be coupled to the feed line 2 via capacitive couplings and/or slot couplings.
- the radiating elements 31 to 36 and 41 to 46 are thereby excited to emit electromagnetic waves and preferably radar radiation.
- the antenna element 1a can be designed to emit radar waves in the gigahertz range, in particular for operation in the 77 gigahertz frequency band, which is widespread in the automotive sector.
- the radiating elements 31 to 36 and 41 to 46 can be divided into a first plurality 3 of radiating elements 31 to 36 on the left or first side of the feed line 2 and in a second plurality 4 of radiating elements 41 to 46 on the right or second side of the Subdivide feed line 2.
- the first multiplicity 3 of emitting elements 31 to 36 and the second multiplicity 4 of emitting elements 41 to 46 are each coupled in series to the feed line 2 .
- the first plurality 3 of radiating elements 31 to 36 differs in the figure 1 shown configuration from the second plurality 4 of emitting elements 41 to 46 in the distribution of the widths of the emitting elements 31 to 36 and 41 to 46.
- Both the emitting elements 31 to 36 of the first plurality 3 of emitting elements 31 to 36 and the emitting elements 41 to 46 of the The second plurality 4 of emitting elements 41 to 46 are rectangular and each have an identical length z, which is measured orthogonally to the feed line 2 .
- the distances x between successive emitting elements 31 to 36 and 41 to 46 are identical in each case.
- the distances x preferably correspond to the wavelength of the emitted radar radiation.
- the widths D of the radiating elements 31 to 36 of the first plurality 3 of radiating elements 31 to 36 are each fixed.
- the widths D are here parallel to Feed line 2 measured.
- the first plurality 3 of emitting elements 31 to 36 thus has a uniform width distribution.
- the widths D1 to D6 of the radiating elements 41 to 46 of the second plurality 4 of radiating elements 41 to 46 follow a Dolph-Tschebyscheff distribution.
- the ratio of the widths D1 to D6 thus corresponds to the ratio of Chebyshev polynomials.
- the widths D1 to D6 may follow any other distribution, such as a binomial distribution.
- the radiation characteristic of the antenna element 1a can be set by choosing suitable distributions.
- the lengths z of the emitting elements 31 to 36 and 41 to 46 can additionally or alternatively vary.
- the distribution of the lengths z of the first plurality 3 of the emitting elements 31 to 36 preferably differs from the distribution of the lengths z of the second plurality 4 of the emitting elements 41 to 46.
- the distances x between successive emitting elements 31 to 36 and 41 to 46 can additionally or alternatively vary.
- the distribution of the distances x of the first plurality 3 of the emitting elements 31 to 36 preferably differs from the distribution of the distances x of the second plurality 4 of the emitting elements 41 to 46.

Furthermore, a high degree of stability of the radiation pattern can be achieved, with the emission direction and the emission power remaining essentially constant in a band range of approximately 3 gigahertz. In addition, even after changing the direction of radiation, a high radiation output can be achieved in a large angular range of about 90 degrees wide. A good one can go further Side lobe levels can be achieved in the elevation plane, with essentially no change in the main emission direction occurring in a band range with a width of 3 gigahertz around a frequency of 76.5 gigahertz.

Description
JP 2001/111332 A US 2016/0248159 A1 bekannt. Mikrostreifenantennen werden behandelt in Hayashi et al., "Millimeter-wave Microstrip Comb-Line Antenna Using Reflection-Canceling Slit Structure", IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, Bd. 59, Nr. 2, 2011, Seiten 398-406. Antennenanordnungen zur Verwendung im Automobilbereich werden behandelt in Wu, "76-81 GHz planar antenna development and utilization for automotive radar applications", 2016. Dipolantennen werden thematisiert in Balmain et al., "Asymmetry phenomenon oflog-periodic dipole antennas", IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, 1976, Seiten 402-410.

- In
- In
- In
- In
