Definitions
- multifunctional pocket knives There is a wide variety of multifunctional pocket knives, most of which are characterized by the following arrangement: they consist of a handle formed of two parallel sides secured to each other by connecting axes and providing a space storage unit intended to hold one or more tools or instruments, knife blade, screwdriver, awl, can opener, etc.
- Scissors with crossed blades pivoting around a central axis are among the oldest cutting instruments, such objects dating back to the first century AD. From the ninth century however, in Asia as in Europe, scissors were generally used in bronze, later in steel, whose 2 blades were mounted on an arcuate spring. They were mainly used for shearing sheep.
- pocket knives appeared later, originally equipped with a single cutting blade that folded into a housing in the handle; therefore, the blade can only be at best equal to the handle in length, but most often slightly less than the latter.
- pocket knives became more and more complex, incorporating several cutting blades and ultimately other tools or instruments such as a screwdriver, a can opener, a corkscrew or a blade. saw for example.
- One of said blades is pivotally mounted on a connecting axis of the pocket knife, the other only around the central axis of the pair, its non-cutting end (branch) remaining free.
- Such a pair of scissors also requires the presence of a bending spring disposed between the non-cutting ends (branches) of the blades and which contributes to the opening of the latter during deployment of the pair of scissors.
- the present invention aims precisely to effectively overcome these disadvantages, weaknesses or drawbacks by proposing in particular a pair of scissors comprising a reduced number of constituent parts, hence easier assembly, greater robustness and increased efficiency.
- the invention consists of a multifunctional pocket knife consisting of a handle formed of two integral sides providing at least one storage space for folding tools each pivoting around the connecting axes respectively arranged at each end of the handle, said storage space storage comprising at least one return spring arranged to fix said tool in the active open position respectively in the inactive closed position, in which one of the tools consists of a pair of scissors extending along the longitudinal axis of said knife, consisting of two flat blades each comprising a cutting edge and both pivoting around the same axis, in that the pivoting end of each of said blades cooperates with a return spring, said spring ensuring that the blade is maintained in the active and open position respectively inactive and closed, said spring exerting an elastic force on the blade sufficient to keep the pair of scissors open once it has been deployed, in that one of the blades has on the internal face of its end a cooperating pin with a recess provided through the pivoting end of the other blade, and in that the travel of the pin in the recess determines the maximum spacing of the blade
- the invention also relates to a pair of scissors intended to be incorporated into a multifunctional pocket knife consisting of a handle formed of two integral sides providing at least one storage space for folding tools each pivoting around the connecting axes respectively arranged at each end of the handle, said storage space comprising at least one return spring arranged to fix said tool in the active open position respectively in the inactive closed position, in which it consists of two flat blades each comprising a cutting and pivoting edge both around the same axis, and that the pivoting end of each of said blades cooperates with a return spring, said spring ensuring that the blade is maintained in the active and open position respectively inactive and closed, said spring exerting an elastic force on the blade sufficient to keep the pair of scissors open once it has been deployed along the longitudinal axis of said knife, in that one of the blades has on the internal face of its end a pin cooperating with a recess made through it of the pivoting end of the other blade, and in that the travel of the pin in the recess determines the maximum spacing of the blades
- multifunctional designates a pocket knife having common tools or instruments such as knife blade, saw blade, screwdriver, can opener, awl, corkscrew for example, in addition to the pair of scissors object of the 'invention.
- common tools or instruments such as knife blade, saw blade, screwdriver, can opener, awl, corkscrew for example, in addition to the pair of scissors object of the 'invention.
- return spring is used to define the spring which ensures the locking of a folding tool or instrument in the closed or open position respectively during its use, the knife blade or the screwdriver for example. Such a spring acts essentially by cooperating with the pivoting end of the tool or instrument considered.
- the particularity consists of using only a single return spring cooperating, when required, with the pivoting end of each of the blades of the pair of scissors.
- the trick also consists of using the same return spring for another tool, the saw blade for example, in addition to said pair of scissors. This results in an appreciable gain in terms of manufacturing: assembly in a single part as well as less handling.
- flat defines, by extension of its general definition (a flat surface on a cylindrical part), a zone located opposite the cutting edge of each blade, zone on which the pressure will be exerted to bring said blades closer to each other during the cutting operation.
- This flat surface can be produced during the manufacture of said blades or subsequently, for example by abrasion and its contact surface can be both smooth and rough.
- grip member defines a tab such as generally present on the various conventional tools or instruments of a pocket knife, knife blade, saw, screwdriver, etc., the particularity of the invention consisting of an adjacent member to a space crossing right through the body of the blade emerging from the storage space, a tab according to the usual terms in the art of cutlery.
- the pocket knife 1 consists of a handle 2 formed of two integral sides 3, 3' providing at least one storage space 4 for tools each pivoting around the connecting axes 5, S' arranged at each end of the handle 2.
- the bottom of the storage space 4 consists of a return spring 7 duly fixed between the two sides 3, 3'.
- the pair of scissors 8 consists of two blades 9, 9' both pivoting around the same connecting axis 5, each via its pivoting end 11, respectively 11'.
- Each of said blades has a cutting edge 10, respectively 10' over its entire length.
- each of the blades 9, 9' has a flat 12, respectively 12'; these flats face each other in the closed position.
- the flat 12, 12' is located on the first half of the corresponding blade, from its pivoting end 11, respectively 11', sometimes even at the level of the first third of the blade: this location, reserved to the exercise of manual pressure (fingers) during the cutting operation, will in fact be a compromise between the possibility of exerting sufficient force or cutting pressure and the need to ensure good control of the pair of chisel in action, if not of the knife itself.
- the blade portion 9 emerging from the storage space 4 is provided with a tab-type gripping member 13 adjacent to a space 14 passing through the body of said blade right through: this setup is everything particularly favorable to the gripping of the instrument with a view to its deployment, by a right-handed or left-handed person.
- the opening or spacing of the blades 9 and 9' is controlled by means of a pin 15 placed on the internal face of the blade 9, in the vicinity of its pivoting end 11 ( Fig. 5 ); this pin 15 cooperates with a recess 16 arranged opposite the latter through the pivoting end 11' of the blade 9'.
- the travel of the pin 15 in the space 16 determines the maximum spacing of the blades 9 and 9' in the deployed position; it is generally around 25 to 30 or even 45 degrees depending on the case.
- a pocket knife takes place as follows: with the knife in hand, the user grasps the end portion of the blade 9 at the level of the tab 13 then deploys the pair of blades 9, 9' to maximum opening. Once this stage is reached, the pivoting end 11 of the blade 9 abuts against the terminal portion 17 of the return spring 7, which rests on a dedicated location of said pivoting end 11 (see Fig. 7 ): optionally, said blade can also be secured in this position.
- the opposite scissor blade 9' is therefore driven in a similar movement, by means of the pin 15 which initially travels through the space (recess) 16 until it abuts against its opposite end at the end of the stroke and in turn drive the 9' blade for maximum deployment.
- the arrangement of the terminal end 11' of said blade 9' is such that during the deployment phase described above, it permanently rests on the terminal portion 17 of the return spring 7 mentioned above.
- the return spring 7 therefore permanently exerts counter-pressure on the blade 9' by means of its pivoting end 11'. As it gradually approaches the blade 9, in other words during the cutting operation, generated by the pressure exerted by the user on the flats 12 and 12', the latter returns said blade 9' to the open position ( active) once the pressure exerted manually on the flat 12' has been released.
- the cutting is carried out by pressure exerted simultaneously on each of the flats 12 and 12' (see Fig. 6 ).
