Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a pocket knife multifunctional with side ribs serving as a handle for knife, the internal faces of said lateral ribs being substantially parallel, and at least one utensil that can pivot or slide in a plane parallel to said internal faces of the lateral ribs, one of said utensils consisting of a cigar cutter.
  • Multifunctional pocket knives of the “Swiss knife” type generally comprise one or more cutting blades and / or one or several utensils swiveling between the two sides of the knife.
  • the success of these knives comes mainly from the wide variety of utensils available, allowing great versatility and many uses in various areas of application.
  • An object of the present invention is to further extend the range utensils available on multipurpose Swiss Army knife type knives, and to offer a new type of specialized knife.
  • Pocket knives fitted with cigar cutters are naturally known (for example US-A-1,717,925, US-A-1,454,994, FR-A-418.164, DE-A-25866, DE-A-22051). They are most often of the type “Guillotine”, that is to say that they generally have a single blade movable perpendicular to the cutting line.
  • Figure 1 a side view of knife according to the invention with a cigar cutter illustrated with the two scissor arms in the separated position.
  • Figure 2 a side view of knife according to the invention with a cigar cutter shown with the two scissor arms in the closed position.
  • the knife 1 generally comprises two lateral ribs, the more often covered with plastic, with internal faces appreciably flat and parallel, between which are arranged various utensils which can be extracted individually by pivoting or sliding in a plane parallel to the internal faces.
  • the side ribs serve as a handle for the knife.
  • the knife has been represented here as if one of the lateral ribs 18 had been removed and comprising only the cigar cutter of the present invention.
  • the knife is fitted with a scissor-type cigar cutter, i.e. comprising two scissor arms 10, 11 pivoting one relative to the other around a first axis 16.
  • the branches 10, 11 each have a curved section portion, the radius of curvature corresponding to at least at the maximum radius of usual cigars, for example 8 to 19 millimeters, without however exceed dimensions allowing the two blades to be stored close together as in Figure 2 in the body of the knife.
  • a portion of the concave edge of each cutting portion of the two branches 10, 11 is sharpened, only the bevel 113 of the second branch 11 being visible on the FIGS.
  • the convex edge 114 of the cutting portion of the branch 11 has otherwise the same angle of curvature as the end 17 of the knife, so that this edge reaches exactly flush with said end 17 when the cigar cutter is folded back into the knife.
  • the portion 114 thus folds back beyond the axis (not shown) for fixing utensils on the side opposite the cigar cutter, which allows you to fold a cigar cutter using the knife the entire length of the knife.
  • the cigar cutter can be removed from knife 1 by rotating it around an axis 14 crossing the first chisel branch 10.
  • a blade of spring 12 is also mounted for rotation about the same axis 14.
  • the blade spring is arranged in the same plane as the second chisel branch 11, so that the whole cigar cutter of the invention claims only two blade widths in the knife 1.
  • Means 15, 102 allow to drive the leaf spring 12 with the first chisel branch 10. In the embodiment shown, these means consist of a lug 15 on branch 10, engaged in an oblong opening 102 in the blade spring 12. It is clear, however, that this provision could just as easily well be reversed.
  • the size of the opening 102 is sufficient to allow despite all a relative rotational movement of the leaf spring 12 and the branch 10 between the two positions illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2.
  • a blade elastic backbone 13 articulated around an axis 130, comes to bear with a portion 101 of the first branch 10 which it pushes back into the extraction position Max.
  • the width of the back blade 13 allows it to press simultaneously on the leaf spring 12, and keep it in the position intermediate illustrated in FIG. 1.
  • the end 120 of the spring leaf 12 bears against a portion 110, 111 of the dorsal edge of the second branch 11.
  • the angular position of the second branch 11 around the axis 16 is thus determined, when none external force is applied, by the relative arrangement of means 110, 111, 120.
  • the spacing of the scissor arms 10, 11 is limited by the support of the portion 120 of the blade 12 against the bearing surface 110 of the second branch 11.
  • the blade of spring 12 keeps the extracted branches 10, 11 sufficiently spaced apart to insert the end of the cigar, but not too much in order to be able to activate the cigar cutter held in the hand with the thumb resting on the handle 112. The cigar cutter is thus directly ready for use when extracted from the knife.
  • the means 110, 120 limiting the spacing branches act in the plane of the movable branch 11, unlike usual scissors whose spacing is limited by stop means in a another plane, for example by abutment portions on one of the branches limiting the pivoting of the other branch.
  • This advantageous arrangement simplifies the manufacture of branches 10, 11, the thickness of the portion extracted can be constant except for the sharpened portion, and limits the total thickness of the cigar cutter.
  • the restoring force of the elastic dorsal blade 13 is transmitted to the convex bearing surface 111 of the second branch 11 by means of the leaf spring 12.
  • the force to be applied to the end 112 of the branch 11 to bring the branches together 10,11 must therefore be sufficient to rotate the spring leaf 12 and push the back leaf 13 down, as seen in Figure 2.
  • the pressure exerted by the dorsal blade 13 on the first branch 10 is then decreased, so that it pivots also up.
  • the extent of movement of branch 10 is however limited by the means 15, 102. This arrangement makes it possible to bring the branches 10, 11 together by exerting a constant force on the end 112.
