rrnn sra'rnsrarnr HARRY WALKER, OF ANAHEIM, CALIFQRNIA, AS SIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF T0 VICTOR W.
Y LA. MONT, OF ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA. I
COMBINATION CAP-OPENER, CIGAR-CLIPPER, AND BIJ'RGLAR-KEY.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Mar, 13, 1917,
Application filed July 19, 1916. Serial No. 110,125.
To all whom it may com-em:
Be it known that I, HARRY l/VALKER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Anaheim, in the county of Orange and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combination Cap-Openers, Cigar-Clippers, and Burglar-Keys, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a combination cap opener, cigar clipper and burglar key, and has for its principal object the production of a. simple and eflicient means for removing the caps from bottles and clipping off the ends of cigars, and also for holding a key in the door so that the same may not be rotated.
Another object of this invention is the production of a device of this nature provided with a shank that may be struck from a single sheet of metal.
lVith these and other objects in View this invention consists of certain novel combinations, constructions, and arrangements of parts as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawing: 7
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the device showing how the same is used.
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the device.
Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the device showing how the same is used to hold a key.
Fig. 4 is a detail perspective View of the shank and fixed jaw.
Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the pivoted jaw.
Fig. 6 is a fragmentary detail perspective view of a modification of the device.
Fig. 7 is a view of the blank from which the fixed aw and shank of the modification is formed.
By referring to the drawings by numerals it will be seen that l designates the shank upon which is fixedly mounted the fixed jaw 2. This fixed jaw is provided with the nose 3, which nose extends parallel with the longitudinal axis of the shank 1.
By referring especially to Fig. 4 it will be seen that the neck portion 4: is provided with the cutting edge 5 and that the fixed jaw is provided with the aperture 6. The pivoted jaw 7 which is provided with the integral inwardly extending curved portion fixed jaw: and shank may be struck from sheet metal and bent along the dotted lines as shown in Fig. 7, and having the side portions 11 adjacent the fixed jaw spaced from each other whereby the pivoted jaw 7 may be rotated around the pivot point 12. By this construction as shown in Figs. 6 and 7 it will be seen that the pivoted jaw 7' may be swung into the pocket 13 wherebythe same will be prevented from hooking into other paraphernalia that might be carried in the pocket in which the device is carried.
By referring to Fig. 1 it will be seen that the pivoted jaw 7 may be swung around toward the fixed jaw 2 by means of the portion 14 so as to engage the cap 15 which is attached to the bottle 16. When the device is in the above described position it will be seen that by lifting up upon the shank 1, the cap will be easily removed from the bottle 16. It will also be seen by referring to Fig.
1 that the pivoted jaw 7 is provided with the cutting edge 17, and that when the outer edge of the jaw is substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis of the shank, that a cigarmay be placed in between the cutting edge 17 of the pivoted aw and thecutting edge 5 of the fixed jaw and by pressing upon the member 14 the end of the cigar will be easily cut from the body portion thereof.
By referring especially to Fig. 3 it will be seen that this device may be used to prevent a key 18 from being dislodged from a key hole in the door from the outside. This is accomplished by having the pivoted jaw at the edge extending parallel to the longitudinal axis of the shank l and allowing the inwardly extending curved portion 8 to extend into the eye portion of the key where by the key will be held in a half turned position in the key hole and therefore, it will be impossible to dislodge the key from the said key hole.
From the above description-it will be seen that a simple .and efficient device has been produced which performs three independent functions, namely, a cap remover, a cigar clipper and a burglar key device. It will in Fig. 7, andthat the two sections 19 and 20 may be bent along the dotted lines over upon themselves and that the pivoted jaw may be pivot-ally mounted therebetween.
10 its central longitudinal axis so as to form a handie portion, a neck integrally extending at right angles to said handle, a head inte grally provided upon said neck, eyes pro- Y vided in said head a nose integrally extending parallel With said handle and in the opposite direction, a pocket formed intermediate said handle and said neck, a swinging jaw pivotally mounted upon said head.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature.
HARRY WALKER.
