Definitions

  • the present invention relates to a multifunction folding tool including a two-lever instrument whose first lever is constituted by the ribs of the multifunction tool and whose second lever serves also unfold and fold back said instrument.
  • the multifunction folding tools are most often knives folding pockets whose handle can accommodate the folded blade and one or more other instruments fulfilling various functions such as corkscrew, screwdriver, bottle opener, punch, scissors, etc. All these instruments are at least partially folded in the sleeve of the tool and can be unfolded independently of each other following the use we want to make of the tool.
  • a type of instruments commonly included in folding tools are the instruments with two articulated levers for example, operating blades or jaws, such as scissors, pliers, secateurs, etc.
  • There are a multitude of models of such folding instruments differing in function, size, mechanism folding and especially their comfort of use.
  • US Patent 6065213 for example describes folding scissors integrated into a multifunctional pocket tool whose first lever is constituted by the body of the tool and which unfold by rotation of the second lever relative to the first lever.
  • the rotation movement of the second lever must be initiated by a pressure on a small ear close to the axis of rotation.
  • the small size of the ear requires the use of a fingernail or a fine tool to begin unfolding scissors and its position close to the axis of rotation requires application of a relatively large force for the generation of the moment of rotation required.
  • Unfolding may also be accidental initiated, for example when transporting the tool with other tools or its storage in a pocket or in a case.
  • the position of the second lever is not precisely determined.
  • EP-A1-714736 discloses a folding tool with two levers including the preferred version is a pruner whose first lever is constituted by the handle of the tool and which unfolds and folds by rotation of the second lever.
  • the spreading force of the blades is generated by blades Elastic dorsals more robust than the spring mechanism evoked previously.
  • the pruner unfolding risk however, to be accidentally initiated.
  • the position of the second lever is not precisely determined. The user must therefore ensure before each use that the relative position of the two levers allows him to correctly grasp the scissors.
  • Another disadvantage of this tool lies in the mechanism drive the blade by the second lever.
  • the blade is driven by means of a pin which is perpendicular and which is, when assembling the tool, inserted into a rail made in the second lever. Mounting the pin in the blade therefore requires a intermediate operation between the machining of the blade and the assembly of the tool, thereby increasing production costs.
  • One of the aims of the present invention is to propose a tool multi-function folding device including at least one two-lever first lever consists of the handle of the tool and whose folding and unfolding can be done by acting only on a handful practiced at the end of the second lever.
  • Another object of the present invention is to propose a tool multi-function folding device including at least one two-lever instrument optimum safety against unintentional opening or closing, thus also improving the comfort of use.
  • a further object of the invention is to propose a tool multi-function folding device including at least one two-lever instrument whose production requires a minimum of handling.
  • the two-lever folding instrument includes in the tool according to this invention unfolds and folds easily by the actuation of a handle practiced at the end of their second lever. Safety and comfort of use are provided by a mechanism now firmly second lever in a first rest position when the instrument is folded and in a second rest position when the instrument is unfolded. All the parts constituting the two-lever instrument included in the preferred version of the tool according to the present invention, apart from rivets, are stamped from a sheet and then folded for some, thus allowing the production at low cost of shaped parts highly elaborate.
  • the pocket knife according to the preferred version of this invention has two ribs whose periphery 10 is shown in FIG. lined in Figures 2 to 13, constituting the handle of the knife and defining an intermediate space inside which fold back to least partially all available instruments.
  • a knife blade, folding scissors, a bottle opener and a can opener can example be unfolded from the front of the pocketknife.
  • On the back of the knife are still for example a corkscrew and a punch.
  • Folding scissors occupy the central part of space intermediate.
  • Two separating elements 1, 2 separate the scissors from the other instruments and prevent any friction when opening or closing the scissors.
  • the scissors consist of a first blade 3 that can pivot about a first axis of rotation u with respect to the handle of the knife, the handle constituting the first lever scissors.
  • Fig. 2 When the scissors are closed (Fig. 2), the first blade 3 is almost completely folded in the intermediate space.
  • the scissors When the scissors are open (fig.6), the first blade 3 is unfolded in the extension of the first lever thus forming with the latter the first branch of the scissors.
  • a second blade 4 can pivot relative to the first blade 3 around a second axis of rotation v.
  • a second lever 5 can pivot relative to the first blade 3 and the second blade 4 around the second axis v.
  • the second lever 5 and the second blade 4 form the second branch of the scissors when these are open.
  • the end of the second lever is folded so as to forming a handle 50 for facilitating the gripping of said second lever 5 when closing and opening the scissors and to guarantee the user a certain comfort during their actuation.
  • a first elastic element for example a first blade elastic dorsal 6 serves to maintain the first blade 3 in a first fixed position when the scissors are folded (Fig. 3) and in a second position when the scissors are unfolded (Fig. 7, Fig. 11), while allowing the rotation of the first blade 3 around the first axis u when the closing and opening of the scissors.
  • the elasticity of the first elastic dorsal blade 6 is created by its attachment only to the axes r and s.
  • the end of the first elastic backing blade 6 pressing against the first blade 3 is left free, allowing its movement under the effect of a force whose intensity will depend mainly on the material used and dimensions of the dorsal blade.
  • a second elastic element for example a second blade elastic dorsal 7 has the main function of applying to the second blade 4 a force spreading the blades of the scissors when they are open.
  • the elasticity of the second elastic dorsal blade 7 is generated by its attachment to the r and s axes, in the same way as for the first blade elastic dorsal 6.
  • the amplitude of the movements of the second blade elastic dorsal 7 is precisely limited by a washer 70 placed around the first axis u and sliding in an oblong slot 73 of the second elastic dorsal blade 7 when actuating the scissors.
  • a rigid dorsal blade 8 fixed to the axes r, s, t and u serves on the one hand to define a first precise rest position of the second lever 5 when the scissors are closed (fig.5) and a second resting position the second lever 5 when the scissors are open (Fig. 9) and on the other hand to initiate the rotational movement of the second axis v around the first axis u when the second lever 5 is out of said resting positions for closing or opening the scissors.
  • the back of the scissors that is to say the back of the intermediate space between the two separating elements 1 and 2, is entirely closed by the three dorsal blades 6, 7, 8.
  • the pocket knife On both sides of the back of the scissors, the pocket knife has other dorsal blades now other instruments folded or unfolded.
  • a rivet 9 holds together the first blade 3, the second blade 4 and the second lever 5 and allows their relative rotation around the second axis v.
  • the rivet 9 has a flat 90 on the part of its length passing through the first blade 3 and the second blade 4.
  • the orifice 34 in which the rivet is inserted is of identical shape to the cutting the rivet there, thus preventing the rotation of the rivet 9 by relative to the first blade 3.
  • the orifice 44 of the second blade 4 in which is inserted the rivet has an additional cut 440 allowing a limited rotation of the second blade 4 around the rivet 9, thus limiting precisely the spacing of the blades 3 and 4.
  • the first blade 3 and the second blade 4 are found almost entirely in space intermediate defined by the ribs of the pocket knife (Fig. 2).
  • the first one elastic backing blade 6 holds the first blade 3 in the folded position (FIG 3) by the support of its contact zone 61 against the first surface of contact 31 of the first blade 3.
  • the involuntary rotation of the first blade 3 around the first axis u is thus prevented by the force of the first elastic dorsal blade 6.
  • the second blade 4 being linked to the first blade 3 by the rivet 9, it is also folded into the intermediate space defined by the edges of the knife (Fig. 4).
  • the second lever 5 is maintained in its first rest position by the action of the the force of the first elastic dorsal blade 6 on the first blade 3 which, through the rivet 9, the plate to its support against the portion 83 of the rigid back plate 8 and the adjustment of its first notch 51 against the first lug 81 of the rigid dorsal blade 8 (Fig. 5).
  • the handle 50 is above blades 2 and 3, thus facilitating its grip for the opening of the scissors (Fig 2).
  • the second lever 5 enters into rotation about the second axis v and out of its first rest position.
  • the support of the first notch 51 against the ear 81 initiates the rotation of the axis v around the first axis u, also leaving the first blade 3 and the second blade 4 of their respective rest positions.
  • the second blade 3 is braked by the strength of the first elastic backing blade 6 pressing with its zone of contact 61 against the rounded portion 33 between the two surfaces contact points 31 and 32.
  • This mechanism increases the safety and the comfort of using scissors by controlling movements opening and closing of which any intermediate position is stable.
  • the first blade 3 When the scissors are open, the first blade 3 is maintained by the first elastic backing blade 6 which bears with its contact zone 61 against the second contact surface 32 of the first blade 3, thus preventing its involuntary rotation around the first axis u.
  • the second elastic dorsal blade 7 then exerts on the second blade 4 a force keeping it away from the first blade 3.
  • the second lever 5 is held in its second rest position by the applied force by the second elastic backplate 7 via the second blade 4 and rivet 9.
  • the second position of the second lever 5 is determined by adjusting the second notch 52 against the second ear 82 of the rigid dorsal blade 8 (Fig 9).
  • the scissors are operated by the exercise of a force on the handle 50 bringing the second lever 5 to the first lever.
  • the second lever 5 drives in its movement the second blade 4 by the support of its actuating region 53 against the bar 43 of the second blade 4, thus acting against the force exerted by the second elastic backing blade 7 on the second blade 4 in their contact zone 74, 45.
  • the blades 2 and 3 are at again spread under the effect of the strength of the second backbone elastic 7.
  • the folding scissors according to the The present invention makes use of two resilient dorsal blades 6, 7 and a rigid dorsal blade 8.
  • the first elastic dorsal blade 6 generates strength necessary to keep the scissors in their position when they are either folded, unfolded.
  • the second elastic dorsal blade 7 generates the force necessary to keep the blades in the open position when the scissors unfolded are at rest as well as the forces necessary for the separation of blades 3, 4 when using scissors.
  • the rigid back plate 8 determines the two rest positions of the second branch 5 and primer the rotational movement of the second axis v around the first axis of rotation u.
  • the first blade 3, the second blade 4, the second lever 5, the first elastic dorsal blade 6, the second elastic dorsal blade 7 and the rigid back plate 8 are all stamped from thick sheets either identical in order to facilitate production, be different in order to adjust the elasticity of the elastic dorsal blades.
  • the handle 50 can be formed, for example by folding the end of the second lever 5, by welding of an additional metal part on the second lever 5 or by overmolding.
  • the bar 43 may be formed for example by folding the second blade 4 or by brazing a pin in the second blade 4.
  • the separating elements 1, 2 are stamped preferably in a sheet metal thinner to limit the thickness of the folding scissors, thus limiting the thickness of the pocket knife.
  • the machining operations described above are simple operations, thereby reducing the production costs of folding scissors.
  • the preferred version of the multifunction folding tool according to the invention including a two-lever instrument consists of a pocket knife including scissors.
  • the principle of the invention also apply to any other folding tool including at least a two-lever instrument operating blades or jaws, such as pliers, secateurs, spreaders, etc.
