Definitions
- the invention relates to a paving covering with artificial stones spaced as equidistantly as possible from one another, in particular paving stones or interlocking paving stones, the artificial stones having a peripheral edge, and in which, when laid, gaps to be filled, in particular drainage joints, are formed due to the spacing between the artificial stones, the joints being at least are partially filled with granules of elastic material, such as from the US2010/284740A1 or the WO 2017/142404 A1 is known.
- Paving coverings or paving made from artificial stones or paving stones placed one on top of the other are well known from practice.
- Paving stones are usually made of concrete and are used to create paved surfaces with high resilience and at the same time the ability to allow the usual amount of rainwater to seep away as much as possible.
- the paving stone is a mass product and must therefore be able to be produced inexpensively. It should be easy and safe to lay and meet all strength requirements according to DIN EN 1388. After the paving stone has been safely laid, it is filled with sand on a suitable base so that each paving stone is securely positioned.
- the paving stones support each other via the filled joint, whereby equidistant distances between the paving stones should be maintained over the years.
- paving offers ecological advantages due to the joints through which rainwater can seep.
- plaster is easier to repair and convert in the long term.
- the present invention is therefore based on the object of offering a simple and, at the same time, long-lasting possibility of reducing the noise level when driving on a paving surface.
- the above object is achieved by the features of claim 1.
- at least some of the artificial stones have a band running around their edge as a spacer element to define a largely dynamic joint width compared to adjacent artificial stones, the spacer element being at least partially made of an elastic material.
- the joints between the individual paving stones are at least partially filled with granules made from elastic or elastomeric material.
- the granules can be used to create a kind of dynamic joint buffer, which transmits the forces that occur when the paving stone is loaded to the neighboring stones without causing unwanted noise, and at the same time effectively prevents individual paving stones from loosening or tipping over.
- the artificial stones can be dynamically supported all around.
- the granules are at least partially polymeric material, in particular ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM).
- EPDM is characterized by properties such as elasticity even in the cold, high weather and ozone resistance and high thermal stability.
- the granules advantageously at least predominantly have a grain size with a diameter of approximately 1 to 2 mm, 1 to 3 mm and/or 2 to 5 mm.
- the granules can be prevented from escaping, for example by sweepers and/or suction machines.
- the spacer elements can be arranged on the artificial stone in such a way that they each touch the spacer element of an adjacent artificial stone.
- the spacer element or the spacer elements are at least partially made of an elastic or elastomeric material.
- Ethylene-propylene-diene rubber EPDM is particularly suitable for this because of the advantages already mentioned above.
- the spacer element has a vertical extension and/or an undercut to ensure a secure fit on the artificial stone. Diagonal alignments, cross alignments, etc. are also possible.
- the spacer element can have a wide variety of basic shapes that are suitable for mutual support. For easy attachment/application of the spacer element, it is advantageous if this is designed as an elastic ring, band, hose, net, grid, etc., so that it can be arranged around the artificial stone.
- the spacer element in the form of a ring or band with a round or square cross-section around the artificial stone, similar to what is possible with a commercially available rubber band.
- the element can be easily attached and the basis for secure positioning and for a dynamic definition of the joint width is created.
- the spacer elements can be glued onto the edge area of the paving stone or incorporated into the material of the artificial stone.
- the artificial stone can have recesses, bores, joints, etc., so that there is a spacer element that is, for example, elongated or round can be inserted or clamped into the artificial stone.
- the spacer element is assigned to the lower edge area of the artificial stone in order to particularly counteract an unwanted shifting of the paving stones.
- the granules can ideally be filled into the joint above the spacer element, so that there is dynamic support all around.
- the height of the spacer element is dimensioned such that it corresponds to between 10% and 60%, preferably approximately 20%, of the height of the joint, in the case of a band this encloses 20% of the corresponding vertical outer surface of the artificial stone. It is also conceivable that this height of the spacer element corresponds to approximately 60% of the height of the joint.
- a joint width between adjacent artificial stones that is ideal from an optical, structural and noise-related point of view is about 2 mm to 6 mm. 4 mm is preferred, both with and without a spacer element. Accordingly, it is advantageous if the granulate has a corresponding dimensioning and, if necessary, the spacer element protrudes correspondingly far from the artificial stone in order to possibly form the desired dynamic joint width together with the spacer element of an adjacent artificial stone.
- the granules are not completely filled up to the upper edge of adjacent artificial stones, so that the filling level of the granules is lower than the upper edge of adjacent artificial stones.
- FIG. 1 shows a paving stone edge, ie a cross section through a joint in the laid state of a paving according to the invention according to a first embodiment.
- a band 2 or box profile 2 made of ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM) is placed around the vertical outer edge area of the paving stone 1, specifically in the lower edge area of the paving stone 1, to define the joint width compared to adjacent artificial stones.
- the box profile 2 essentially has an angular cross-section and protrudes approximately 2 mm from the artificial stone, so that the largely dynamic joint width between adjacent artificial stones 1 is approximately 4 mm.
- the height of the box profile corresponds to about 20% of the height of the artificial stone 1 and thus the joint.
- the joint to be filled due to the spacing from adjacent artificial stones is largely filled with granulate 3 made from ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM).
- EPDM ethylene-propylene-diene rubber
- the grain has different diameters, mainly between 1 mm and 4 mm.
- a narrow free area without joint filling 4 is shown above the granules and the artificial stone 1 can be seen.
- FIG. 2 shows a paving stone edge in the laid state of a paving according to the invention according to a second embodiment.
- This in 2 shown embodiment corresponds essentially to that of 1
- the height of the box profile corresponds to about 60% of the height of the artificial stone 1 and thus the joint.
- the joint to be filled due to the distance to adjacent artificial stones is filled with significantly less granulate 3 made of ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM).
- EPDM ethylene-propylene-diene rubber
- FIG. 3 shows a schematic view of a paving stone flank in the laid state of a paving covering not belonging to the invention, with no band or box profile being arranged around the vertical outer edge area of the paving stone 1 .
- granules 3 made of ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (EPDM), with a narrow free area without joint filling 4 being left free above the granules here as well.
- EPDM ethylene-propylene-diene rubber

Description
- Fig. 1
- Fig. 2
