Definitions
- the invention relates to a connector assembly for an airbag igniter.
- the object of the invention can be seen to provide a connector assembly for an airbag igniter, which during the Installation is easy to handle, provides a secure plug connection and is suitable for tight spaces.
- an electrical connector assembly for an airbag igniter having a plug body comprising a contact holder portion, an annular detent ring movable about a plug axis, fixed to the plug body and concentrically surrounding the contact holder portion.
- the locking ring has at least one at a first end 53) introduced first recess 55), which extends against a direction of insertion, diagonally to the plug-in axis, wherein it generates a guide surface 52).
- a mating connector having a plug receiving portion adapted to receive the contact holder portion of the plug.
- the plug receiving portion is surrounded by a collar, on the outside of which a projection is mounted, which engages in mating of electrical plug and mating connector with the guide surface and the latching ring against a spring force (F) of the elastic member about the plug-in axis in a first direction (R) turns.
- the locking ring has a second recess at a second end. In fully assembled state, the projection and the second recess in a plane perpendicular to the plug-in axis, wherein the spring force rotates the locking ring counter to the first direction, so that the projection is received in the second recess and locks the plug body with the plug-in receptacle.
- this electrical connector assembly ensures that the plug is only then locked to the mating connector when fully is plugged. If the connector is not fully inserted, the plug is pulled out of the mating connector by the elastic element when the insertion force is removed. The worker sees immediately that the plug is not plugged in correctly and can repeat the process. However, if the plug is correctly inserted, the projections snap into the recesses and lock the plug securely. The plug is locked at several points in order to hold the plug particularly firmly on the mating connector. This locking concept makes it possible to design very flat connectors.
- a clearance is formed between the contact holder portion and locking ring, which completely receives the collar when the electrical connector is inserted into the mating connector.
- the contact holder region has on its circumference facing the locking ring at least one rib which is designed to engage with at least one groove in the mating connector while the electrical connector is inserted into the mating connector.
- the interaction of the rib and the groove allows for a precise guidance of the plug in the mating connector and on the other holds the rib the plug in position when the locking ring is rotated about the through axle.
- the rib prevents slippage of the first connector when the elastic element causes a torque about the thru-axle.
- the rib engages the groove before the projection engages the guide surface.
- the rib-and-groove combination In order for the rib-and-groove combination to hold the first housing part, when inserted in the insertion direction, the rib first has to engage the groove before the locking ring is rotated.
- a plurality of ribs are distributed unevenly over the circumference.
- the retention capacity increases, which makes the plug arrangement more robust, on the other hand, this results in coding possibilities for the plug arrangement.
- plug-in errors are avoided during assembly, because certain connectors can only be connected to certain mating connectors. This is particularly important when several, same-looking mating connector are arranged side by side.
- the first recess and the second recess are introduced on the inside of the locking ring.
- This has the advantage that the outside has a smooth surface that is dirt-repellent.
- the surface may also have corrugated areas to facilitate gripping when opening the connector.
- the mechanism consisting of guide surface and projection, protected against dirt and foreign bodies.
- the elastic element is designed as a torsion spring.
- the design as a torsion spring can be integrated particularly well in the housing.
- the torsion spring is perpendicular to the plug-in axis and thus does not contribute to the expansion of the housing in the direction of the thru-axle.
- the elastic element can also be designed as a spring or elastomer element.
- a promising embodiment of the elastic element consists of a stamped spring element.
- the spring element is designed U-shaped or in the form of a circular arc.
- the torsion spring has at least one turn which winds around the thru-axle. This construction guarantees a uniform spring effect.
- one end of the torsion spring is connected to the plug body and the second end to the locking ring.
- plug body and locking ring can move elastically against each other.
- the plug body has a flat, elongated shape whose extension along the housing axis, which extends at right angles to the plug-in axis, is greater than in the direction of the plug-in axis. Due to the flat design of the plug body, it can be installed in confined spaces.
- the locking ring has more than one first recess and more than one second recess.
- the use of multiple recesses reduces the pressure on the guide surfaces, which allows the latching ring to slide more easily and also provides increased retention force (as previously mentioned).
- the recesses are distributed uniformly over the circumference of the locking ring. This prevents the locking ring from being misjudged or jammed when mated together.
- the guide surface extends in a straight line.
- a straight guide surface requires a uniform force on the plug when mating. Is it desirable that the insertion force should vary, the guide surface may be curved or in stages. The characteristic of the necessary insertion force can thus be varied within a wide range.
- FIG. 1 shows an electrical connector assembly, wherein two mating connector 100 side by side on a housing wall 1 of an airbag igniter, are attached.
- a plug 10 is attached to one of the mating connector 100.
- the plug 10 has a plug body 20, comprising a contact holder portion 30 and an annular detent ring 50 which is movably mounted about a plug axis X on the plug body 20 and concentrically surrounds the contact holder portion 30.
- An elastic element 90 FIG. 3 ) holds the latching ring 50 in a rest position P.
- the plug body 20 has a flat, elongated shape whose extension along the housing axis A, which extends at right angles to the plug-in axis X, is greater than in the direction of the plug-in axis.
- the mating connector 100 has a plug-in receiving region 110, which is designed to receive the plug-in region 30 of the plug 10 and to connect it electrically and mechanically.
- the mating connector 100 has a collar 101, which delimits the plug-receiving portion 110.
- the collar 101 has around the through-axle X around a round cross-section. From the plug-receiving portion 110 protrude along the plug axis X contact pins 111, which have a round cross-section.
- the contact pins 111 are aligned with the housing axis A.
- the mating connector 100 has, on the side facing the plug-receiving region 110, recesses 104 which are designed to support ribs 32 (FIG. FIG. 2 ) of the plug 10.
- FIG. 2 shows the plug 10 in a position that makes the contact holder portion 30 more visible.
- the latching ring 50 has a first recess 55 introduced at a first end 53, which extends counter to an insertion direction Y, diagonally to the plug-in axis X, wherein it generates a guide surface 52.
- Between the contact holder portion 30 and locking ring (50) has a free space (57) is formed, which completely receives the collar 101 when the electrical connector is inserted into the mating connector
- FIG. 3 shows the plug 10 in perspective view.
- the elastic member 90 is engaged with both the plug body 20 and the detent ring 50.
- the elastic member 90 holds the detent ring 50 in a rest position P on the plug body 20 by exerting a force F on the detent ring 50.
- the locking ring 50 is thus prevented from rotating about the thru-axle X.
- FIG. 4 shows the plug 10 in an exploded view.
- the elastic element 90 is held in the plug body 20 and partially wound around the thru-axle X.

Abstract
