Definitions
- the invention relates to a device for filling capsules composed of an upper capsule part and a lower capsule part, comprising a feed wheel, on the circumference of which a plurality of capsule holders are provided, each of which has a plurality of capsule receptacles for one capsule each, further comprising a feed wheel drive with which the feed wheel can be rotated in cycles, with the feed wheel alternating between idle times and movement times, so that the capsule holders move in cycles along a conveyor track, and comprising a plurality of process stations arranged along the conveyor track, the process stations having at least one feed station for feeding in capsules to be filled into the capsule receptacles, at least one opening station for opening the capsules to be filled by separating the capsule tops from the capsule bottoms, at least one filling station for filling the capsule bottoms with material to be filled, at least one Closing station for closing the filled capsules by connecting the capsule upper parts to the capsule lower parts, and at least one ejection station for ejecting the filled capsules.
- the invention also relates to a method for filling capsules composed of an upper capsule part and a lower capsule part, in which a conveyor wheel, on the circumference of which a plurality of capsule holders is provided, each of which has a plurality of capsule receptacles for one capsule each, is rotated in cycles, with the conveyor wheel alternately runs through idle times and movement times, so that the capsule holders move cyclically along a plurality of process stations that are arranged along a conveyor track, the process stations at least one feed station for feeding capsules to be filled into the capsule receptacles, at least one opening station for opening the to be filled capsules by separating the capsule shells from the Capsule bottoms, at least one filling station for filling the capsule bottoms with material to be filled, at least one closing station for closing the filled capsules by connecting the capsule tops to the capsule bottoms, and at least one ejection station for ejecting the filled capsules.
- Clocked capsule filling machines of this type have a conveyor wheel designed, for example, as a turntable, on the circumference of which a plurality of capsule holders are provided for receiving the capsules to be filled.
- a feed wheel drive moves the feed wheel cyclically along a plurality of process stations arranged along the circumference of the feed wheel, with the capsule holders cyclically passing through the process stations.
- Such capsule filling machines form so-called rotary machines.
- the process stations usually provided include at least one feed station for feeding in the capsules to be filled, at least one opening station for opening the capsules to be filled by separating the capsule tops and bottoms, one or more filling stations for filling the capsule bottoms with the respective material, at least one capsule closing station and at least one capsule ejection station.
- one or more empty stations can be provided for retrofitting of process stations.
- the conveyor wheel goes through downtimes and movement times.
- the switching time defines the time in which the capsule holders are moved from one process station to the next process station. This is determined by the movement time of the conveyor wheel.
- the rest time defines the time in which the capsule holder each to the Process stations remain to carry out the respective process. This is determined by the standstill time of the conveyor wheel.
- a machine for filling and sealing capsules in which the feed wheel is driven by a drive designed as a servomotor. In this way, the conveying path and the conveying direction should be variably adjustable in a conveying cycle for research purposes. The aim is to reduce the number of machine drives as far as possible.
- a device for filling capsules in which a filling device is designed as an independent and exchangeable module. This is intended to increase the flexibility of the machine.
- the filling device designed as a module has its own drive and is mechanically coupled to the machine for operation and is thus integrated into the cycled production process.
- the clocked movement of the capsule holder is usually realized by an indexing gear, which is driven by the conveyor wheel drive.
- the indexing gear converts a constant speed of the conveyor wheel drive into stepping movements and thus into switching and dwell times.
- the sequence of movements from switching and dwell times is mechanically defined by suitable curves.
- a continuously rotating electric motor of the conveyor wheel drive that drives the indexing gear generates a cycle with each of its revolutions via the indexing gear, in particular corresponding switching angles and locking angles of the cam arrangement are run through.
- the output of the indexing gear carries out a movement step when the drive passes through the indexing angle and stands still when the drive passes through the detent angle.
- the rest and switching times are therefore determined by the in mechanically realized detent and switching angle of the indexing gear and are basically in a fixed ratio according to the design of the indexing gear.
- a mechanical cam coupled to the conveyor wheel drive is provided for each process station to control the movement sequences in the process station. For example, if the conveyor wheel drive is operated at a different rotational speed, this changes the number of cycles and the speed of the respective movement of the process stations accordingly.
- the conveyor wheel drive driving the indexing gear must be operated more slowly if, for example, a slower filling is required, so that the production of the device is slowed down overall. This increases the total cycle time made up of rest and switching times. The slowest process station accordingly determines the overall production speed of the machine.
- the invention is based on the object of providing a device and a method of the type mentioned at the outset, with which capsules can be filled in a more efficient and flexible manner compared to the prior art.
- the invention solves the problem in that by means of the feed wheel drive, the ratio between idle times and movement times of the feed wheel is variably adjustable that at least one of the process stations has at least one drive for its operation that can be controlled independently of the conveyor wheel drive, and that a control device is provided which is designed to control the conveyor wheel drive for variable setting of the ratio between idle times and movement times of the conveyor wheel, and/or which is designed for this purpose to control at least the drive speed and/or the stroke (for example a closing stroke) of the process station, which has at least one drive of its own, independently of the feed wheel drive.
- a plurality of process stations preferably each of the process stations, has at least one drive of its own, with the control device being designed to control the conveyor wheel drive for variable setting of the ratio between idle times and movement times of the conveyor wheel, and/or being designed to to control at least the drive speed and/or the stroke of the multiple process stations, preferably each process station, independently of the conveyor wheel drive.
- the process station(s) equipped with their own drive mechanical cam disks are dispensed with as an interface between the conveyor wheel drive and the process stations.
- one or more of the process stations are equipped with a drive that can be controlled independently of the conveyor wheel drive, so that quasi-electronic cam discs are provided in this respect.
- the number of drives is deliberately increased in order to increase the productivity of the device in the regular production process.
- the drives of the process stations can be controlled independently of the feed wheel drive, in particular the drive speed of the feed wheel drive, at least with regard to their drive speed and/or their stroke.
- the change in the lift can affect a change in the lift speed and/or the lift distance.
- the drives of the process stations are moved synchronously to the conveyor wheel drive in a defined manner, but can be individually adjusted. It is both possible that a drive that can be controlled independently of the conveyor wheel drive controls several, in particular even all, of the process stations. It is also possible for one or more process stations to have an individual drive that can be controlled independently of the conveyor wheel drive.
- a feed wheel drive is provided with which the standstill times and movement times of the feed wheel can be variably adjusted.
- the relationship between rest time and switching time which is generally rigid in the prior art, is resolved.
- the dwell time and the switching time are decoupled from each other and can be specifically and flexibly defined and adjusted.
- the conveyor wheel drive accelerates and brakes the z. B. designed as a turntable conveyor wheel in the switching time, so that the capsule holders are moved in the switching time from one process station to the next process station.
- the switching time is thus predetermined by the movement time of the feed wheel.
- the feed wheel drive keeps the feed wheel in position.
- the rest time is predetermined by the standstill time of the feed wheel.
- the feed wheel drive or an electric motor of the feed wheel drive therefore does not rotate continuously in order to implement the cyclical movement.
- the feed wheel drive can be designed in such a way that it rotates the feed wheel in only one direction of rotation.
- the feed wheel drive can also be designed in such a way that it feeds the feed wheel to the Approaching each process station rotates.
- the ratio of downtimes and movement times of the conveyor wheel can therefore be changed.
- the one or more process stations equipped with at least one drive of their own can be driven independently of the conveyor wheel drive, in particular operated at different speeds, during the rest time.
- both the switching angle and the detent angle can be traversed at different speeds.
- the travel path of the process station(s), which has at least one drive of its own can be controlled by the control device independently of the conveyor wheel drive.
- the travel path can be controlled independently of the travel path of the feed wheel drive. This applies, for example, to the respective strokes of the process stations, which can be set in a flexible manner, independently of the conveyor wheel drive, specifically for the respective application.
- the invention solves the problem explained above in that when there is a change in the production parameters affecting the filling of the capsules, the ratio between downtimes and movement times of the conveyor wheel is changed and/or at least the drive speed and/or the stroke of at least one process station is changed becomes. It can be provided that when there is a change in the production parameters relating to the filling of the capsules, the ratio between downtimes and movement times of the conveyor wheel is changed and/or at least the drive speed and/or the stroke of a number of process stations is changed.
- the control device is designed to change the ratio between idle times and movement times of the conveyor wheel and/or to change at least the drive speed and/or the stroke of at least one process station when there is a change in the production parameters relating to the filling of the capsules.
- the production parameters relating to the filling of the capsules can in particular include the product to be filled into the capsules.
- the invention permits flexible adaptation to the respective production parameters, for example the product to be filled, the quantity of product to be filled and/or the capsules filled in each case.
- Product loss can be minimized and the filling quality can be improved by suitably setting the switching and rest times.
- the flexible adjustment of the switching and idle times and thus individual optimization of the cycle times achieve more efficient operation and thus an increase in performance with simplified service.
- Drives of the process stations that can be controlled independently of the conveyor wheel drive enable variability of the movement sequences and movement curves, so that the respective process stations can be optimally adjusted.
- Productivity is increased. This also applies to process reliability. For example, unseparated capsules are always ejected at the optimal speed.
- the mechanical stress on the capsules for example when the capsules are closed, can be reduced.
- a mechanical adjustment of the process stations is no longer necessary, since the process stations can be adjusted individually via their respective actuators.
- the control device comprises a memory device in which different sets of production parameters are stored, for example for different capsules to be filled and/or different material to be filled and/or different product quantities to be filled.
- the sets of production parameters can each contain control specifications for the conveyor wheel drive and the drives of the process stations, in particular with regard to their respective timing, drive speed, stroke and/or travel path.
- the control device can then select the production parameter set that is suitable in each case. A largely automatic setting of the suitable production parameters then takes place.
- one or more empty stations can be provided in the device according to the invention for subsequent retrofitting of process stations.
- Several filling stations can also be provided for filling the capsules with possibly different material.
- process stations of the device it is of course possible for process stations of the device to be combined with one another.
- a combined feeding and opening station could be provided, in which the capsules to be filled are fed into the capsule receptacles and opened by separating the upper capsule parts from the lower capsule parts.
- One or more of the process stations can also have multiple drives, all of which can be controlled independently of the conveyor wheel drive.
- the capsule holders can each have a first and a second row of capsule receptacles. It is then possible to provide only one feed station which is designed to feed capsules to both rows of capsule receptacles of a capsule holder. However, two feed stations can also be provided, one of which feeds capsules to the first row and one to the second row.
- at least one collecting device can be provided, which is arranged in such a way that the capsules ejected in at least one ejection station are fed to it.
- at least one testing device can be provided for testing the capsules filled in the process stations.
- Each of the station groups can then have at least one feed station for feeding capsules to be filled into the capsule receptacles, at least one opening station for opening the capsules to be filled by separating the capsule tops from the capsule bottoms, at least one filling station for filling the capsule bottoms with material to be filled, at least one closing station for closing the filled capsules by connecting the upper capsule parts to the lower capsule parts, and at least one ejection station for ejecting the filled capsules. It can therefore be a so-called multiple rotary machine, in particular a double rotary machine.
- the feed wheel drive can be a servo drive comprising a servo motor that drives the feed wheel in rotation via a gear. It is also possible for the feed wheel drive to be a direct drive, in particular a torque drive. In this case, the feed wheel drive acts on the feed wheel without a gear. Both types of drive are particularly suitable for a non-continuous drive of the feed wheel, i.e. a process during the switching times and a standstill in the rest times, and offer variable adjustability of the movement times and standstill times of the feed wheel.
- the drives of the process stations can basically be selected from the group of servo drives, direct drives, linear drives, etc. With these variants, essentially any constellation of switching and dwell times can be implemented.
- At least one ejection station can include a device for separating good capsules and bad capsules.
- the method according to the invention can be carried out with a device according to the invention. Accordingly, the device according to the invention can be suitable for carrying out the method according to the invention.
- the device according to the invention shown comprises a feed wheel 20 designed as a circular turntable in the example shown.
- a plurality of capsule holders 22 are arranged along the circumference of the feed wheel 20 and are held by the feed wheel.
- the capsule holders 22 each have two rows of capsule receptacles for one capsule each.
- a feed wheel drive not shown in detail, for example comprising a torque drive
- the feed wheel 20 is rotated clockwise in the example shown in cycles, as in FIG 1 illustrated by arrow 24.
- the capsule holders 22 are moved cyclically along a conveyor track through various process stations, as is known per se.
- the process stations are in 1 numbered 01 to 12 and shown only partially and very schematically.
- Stations 01 and 02 are feed stations in which capsules 26 to be filled and pre-closed are fed to the first or second row of capsule receptacles 22 .
- Station 03 is an opening station in which the capsules to be filled are opened by separating the upper capsule parts from the lower capsule parts.
- station 04 is an idle station.
- the opening station is formed by the process station 04 and the process station 03 is an empty station.
- the process stations 05, 06 and 07 can be filling stations in which the capsule bases are filled with material to be filled. This is an example in 1 shown by the filling wheel 28. It is also possible that one or two of the process stations 05, 06 and 07 are idle stations.
- the process station 08 can be an empty station or unopened capsules can be ejected in the process station 08 in the opening station.
- the process stations 05, 06, 07 and 08 in addition to the capsule holders 22, which carry the capsule bases when the capsules are open, there are also capsule holders 30 arranged radially on the inside for holding the Capsule tops shown.
- the process station 09 is a closing station in which the filled capsules are closed by connecting the upper capsule parts to the lower capsule parts.
- the process stations 10 and 11 are each ejection stations. For example, bad capsules can be ejected in the process station 10 and good capsules in the process station 11 . The distinction is based on one or more test facilities.
- the process station 12 can be an empty station or, for example, a cleaning station in which the capsule holders 22 are cleaned of any product residues that may be present.
- each of the process stations has at least one drive of its own.
- a control device is provided with which at least the drive speed and the travel path of the drives of the process stations can be controlled independently of the conveyor wheel drive.
- FIG. 2 is a very schematic and simplified representation of a production cycle over time for a capsule to be filled.
- the white fields each show rest times in which the conveyor wheel 20 is stationary and the process stations are driven to carry out their respective activities.
- the black fields each show switching times in which the conveyor wheel 20 is rotated further in order to move the capsule holder 22 from one process station to the next process station.
- the rest times and switching times are shown as examples of the process steps carried out for supplying and opening (Supply/Opening), filling the capsules (Filling), closing the capsules (Closing) and ejecting the capsules (Discharge).
- the switching times are denoted by t T , while, for example, the rest time for filling the capsule is denoted by t F .
- the dwell and switching times are fixed once for a process and are then always the same in relation to each other.
