Definitions
- the invention relates to a scalable explosive device for an active body.
- the active body may be, for example, a warhead.
- Warrior heads should therefore be so adjustable in their performance that they only destroy the desired target and cause as little collateral damage as possible.
- a so-called GAP test is often carried out.
- a generally made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) existing barrier layer is positioned between the explosives to be examined and a to be fired by a detonator boost.
- the boost charge is then detonated.
- a pressure wave is coupled into the layer, which is attenuated as it passes through the layer before it hits the explosive.
- the GAP test is carried out with different layer thicknesses of the barrier layer. In this case, the largest layer thickness at which the explosive is just detonated, and the lowest layer thickness at which just no detonation takes place, determined as a measure of the sensitivity of the explosive.
- an ignition device for a warhead with an explosive charge with a first detonating chain with detonating charge for detonating initiation and a second detonating chain with an embolization charge for deflagrative initiation is known, wherein the time delay (.DELTA.t) between the triggering times of both ignition chains is adjustable. If the two ignition chains lie opposite each other with respect to the longitudinal axis of the explosive charge, by means of a suitable choice of the two Firing times the arbitrary setting of the deflagrierenden portion of the explosive charge between 0 and 100% achievable.
- the booster charge of the second ignition chain may be formed as a shaped charge.
- From the DE 100 15 070 A1 is an explosive charge for a warhead known, in addition to the detonating chain for detonative initiation of the explosive charge has another detonation chain for deflagrativen initiation.
- the explosive charge is layered in the axial direction such that a first, third, etc. detonatively convertible explosive layer is followed by a second, fourth, etc. deflagratively convertible or inert layer.
- the object of the present invention is to provide an alternative scalable explosive device which allows a relatively accurate adjustment of the blasting action. Furthermore, a method for scaling the effect of an explosive device should be specified.
- a scalable explosive device for an active body comprising an explosive active mass, a first ignition chain with a first boost charge for triggering a detonative reaction of the explosive active mass and a second ignition chain with a second boost charge for triggering a deflagrativen implementation of the explosive active mass.
- the ignition chains are of a known type. Usually, this consists of an electrically ignitable detonator, the ignition then causes the ignition of the first or second boost charge.
- an explosive active mass is a pressure wave transmission means applied to the explosive active mass for coupling a pressure wave emanating from the second boost charge when it detonates into the explosive active mass and preventing the second boost charge from acting directly on the explosive active mass during the detonation of the second boost charge.
- the second boost charge, the pressure wave transmission means and the explosive active mass and possibly also a suspension of the explosive active mass are chosen and dimensioned such that the pressure wave triggered by detonation of the boost charge causes the deflagrative conversion of the explosive active mass.
- the energy to be coupled into the explosive active mass is less than the energy to be coupled into the explosive active mass for triggering a detonation.
- the concern of the pressure wave transmission means to the explosive active mass may be a direct concern or indirect concern, for example via an intermediate layer of plastic. It is only essential that the pressure wave can be transmitted from the pressure wave transmission means to the explosive active mass.
- the damming is important because in a highly dammed explosive active mass whose deflagrative reaction can go uncontrolled into a detonative reaction. However, this should be avoided with the scalable explosive device in order not to achieve a stronger than desired explosive effect.
- the energy to be transmitted to the explosive active mass can be adjusted very precisely because the intensity of the pressure wave can be set very precisely.
- the introduction of a deflagrative reaction known from the prior art by means of a shaped charge is less reliable because the energy transmitted through its detonation to the explosive active mass can vary due to fluctuations in the shaped charge power. This can lead to unintentional detonation.
- the explosive device according to the invention enables a simple yet reliable functioning of a scalable explosive device.
- the explosive effect can thus be scaled between 0%, for example in the case of a mission abort, and 100% continuously. If 0% explosive effect is desired, only the deflagrative reaction by ignition of the second Reinforced charge, but not the detonative ignition initiated. In contrast, if 100% explosive action is desired, only the detonative conversion by ignition of the first boost charge, but not the deflagrative conversion of the explosive active mass is initiated.
- the scalable explosive device may include means for enabling simultaneous or staggered ignition of the first and second boosted charges.
- the second boost charge can be ignited before or after the first boost charge.
- the first boost charge and the second boost charge may be disposed on opposite sides of the explosive mass with respect to a longitudinal axis through the explosive active mass.
- the pressure wave transmission medium may be polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) or another, in particular polymeric, plastic.
- the explosive active mass is enveloped by an active-substance shell, which either itself forms the pressure-wave transmission means or into which the pressure-wave transmission means is integrated.
- the invention furthermore relates to a method for scaling the action of a scalable explosive device according to the invention, wherein a deflagrative conversion of the explosive active mass is initiated by introducing a pressure wave into the explosive active mass and the amount of explosive active mass to be detonatively converted by the amount of deflagration not already reacted during detonation of the explosive active mass Explosive material is limited by the first and the second boost charge are ignited simultaneously or with a time delay.
- the figure shows a scalable explosive device according to the invention.
- the scalable explosive device comprises an explosive active mass 10 in an active body shell 12 with a first detonating chain 18 comprising a first detonator 14 and a first reinforcing charge 16.
- the explosive device further comprises a second detonating chain 24 comprising a second detonator 20 and a second reinforcing charge 22 second detonator can each be ignited electrically.
- the pressure wave transmission means 26 in the form of a thick plate of polymethyl methacrylate, incorporated into the active body shell 12, is arranged.
- the implementation of the explosive active mass 10 can be carried out in such a way that initially the second boost charge 22 is ignited by means of the second detonator 20.
- the pressure wave produced by the ignition of the second boost charge 22 is transmitted to the explosive active mass 10 by the pressure wave transmission means 26, the pressure wave being attenuated depending on the dimensions of the pressure wave transmission means 26.
- the first boost charge 16 is ignited by means of the first detonator 14, thereby triggering a detonatory conversion of the remaining explosive active mass.
- the greater the time interval between the ignition of the second boost charge 22 and the first boost charge 16 the more explosive active mass is deflagrated and the less explosive active mass is available for detonating the explosive active mass and the lower the blasting effect.
Abstract
