Definitions

  • the invention relates to a method for the safe and easy erection of a dismountable scaffolding system comprising at set of elongate elements to be used as vertical posts with apertured connecting elements secured thereto along the length of said elongate elements at intervals corresponding to the grid pattern of the scaffolding system and having connectors for being stackable in an end to end continuation for the creation of a multi-storey scaffolding system, and which can be joined together by bracing elements comprising a first set of bars to be used in a substantially horizontal position having coupling locks in opposite ends for coupling to said apertured connecting elements and a second set of bars to be used in a substantially horizontal position for railing said storeys and comprising a second type of coupling locks in opposite ends.
  • the invention further relates to a scaffolding system, a set of bars extending substantially horizontally, and in particular an end segment comprising coupling locks for connecting said substantially horizontally extending set of bars to the apertured connecting elements on said set of elongate elements used as vertical posts.
  • a basic scaffolding system comprises two rows of vertical posts, which can be connected together for building a multi-storey scaffolding system and substantially horizontally extending elongate bars, connecting the vertical posts juxtaposed to each other in a direction along and a direction orthogonal to a facade. Since the vertical posts and the horizontally extending elements are connected orthogonal to each other forming a substantially rectangular frame structure diagonal supports can be added at regular intervals for securing the scaffolding systems against collapsing.
  • Deck or floor elements covering rectangles formed by the connections made in the substantially horizontal plane at regular intervals complete the scaffolding system.
  • a number of deck or floor elements can have openings with a hatch, which can be hinged, and a ladder extending from one deck through an opening in a subsequent deck makes it possible to ascent and descent between storeys.
  • a scaffolding system comprising vertical posts with annular apertured disks spaced along the lengths of the posts and horizontally extending elongate scaffolding elements, which are locked to the annular apertured disks by means of coupling lock, is known.
  • the coupling heads or coupling locks have disk- receiving slots by means of which the coupling heads engage with the apertured disks at both the bottom and top faces of the disks.
  • a wedge is used as locking means between the coupling heads and the apertured disk on the vertical posts.
  • Said apertured disks are connected to the vertical posts by means of welding, riveting, screws or other similar methods.
  • Such facade scaffolding systems are generally assembled by successively erecting individual scaffolding planes, with the individual member of the vertical posts of a first scaffolding plane ending as a rule in each case just above a floor plate belonging to a second scaffolding plane positioned above it This upper end of the vertical post is then coupled by the installer to the lower end of a further vertical post in an end to end continuation for a further scaffolding storey by means of a spigot connection.
  • bracing elements or bars are locked to the vertical posts on a subsequent storey, in which the installer was present during the former working step
  • It is an object of the invention to provide a method for erection of a scaffolding system comprising vertical and horizontal elements in a substantially rectangular frame structure having an hereto unseen high degree of freedom in handling.
  • a horizontal railing element by the introduction of a pivotable coupling lock in at least one end can be attached to an apertured connecting element on a vertical element without the necessity for bringing the members with locks into specific angles.
  • Another object of the invention is a method for attaching and locking the railing element onto a subsequent storey from a position on an already built storey together with and by means of a vertical post prior to the floor plate system for this subsequent storey being laid.
  • a further object of the invention is to provide a new implementation of a coupling lock for coupling a set of bars used as railing element in a scaffolding system comprising a 360 degrees pivot joint defining a pivot axis perpendicular to said bar allowing one end of said bar to be pivotably linked to an apertured connecting element facilitating the attachment of said railing element to the scaffolding system.
  • FIG. 2 A perspective representation of the scaffolding system according to the invention is shown in FIG. 2 .
  • the drawing shows two lower storey sections and initial steps of a subsequent storey.
  • the connection between said first set of bars 5 and vertical posts 1 is safely locked together to form a substantially rectangular lattice box structure.
  • the elongated elements 1, 1' are of a tubular geometry and the connecting elements on said elongated elements are apertured annular disks 2 secured by means of welding at intervals defining the grid pattern of the rectangular lattice box structure.
  • the apertures 3, 4 of said connecting elements 2 are distributed at regular intervals circumferential to the elongate elements 1, 1', so that the bars can be suspended between vertical posts 1 in fixed angles in a horizontal plane.
  • Said coupling locks of said first type in each end of said bars 5 of a first set can be a bilateral coupling head adjoining the faces of the apertured annular disk 2 and secured thereto by means of a wedge.
  • Said coupling head at each end of said first set of the bars 5 has registering openings extending perpendicular to the elongation of said first set of bars 5.
  • a releasable wedge extends through these openings and through one of the openings in the annular disk 2 for consolidation of the coupling.
  • the couplings hereby accomplished secure and lock the dismountable first set of bars in the scaffolding system.
  • a coupling lock of this type is shown in FIG 3 , enlarged view item 13.
  • a second set of bars 6 comprising a second type of coupling locks in opposite ends is used in a substantially horizontal position for railing. At least one of said second type of coupling locks is implemented as a pivot joint defining a pivot axis c perpendicular to said bar of the second set 6.
  • FIGS 1 A and B show a perspective representation of a pivotable hook-shaped locking element comprising a substantially straight segment 9 and an angular segment 8, the pivoting axis c being substantially perpendicular to the bar 6.
  • Said hook-shaped locking element is secured against axial displacement by means of clamping devices 10 secured to said hook-shaped locking element on each side of the end element 7, a clamping device 10 opposite to the locking element and an equivalent clamping, the locking element having a small clearance in the axial direction in order to ensure that said hook-shaped locking element is freely pivotable. Pivoting attained by gravity will position the locking element in the coupling lock in an optimal position for engagement with the apertured connecting element.
  • FIG. 1A shows the coupling just before engagement with the hook-shaped element in a preferential position attained by gravity
  • FIG. 1B shows the coupling after engagement.
  • FIG. 2 the engagement between a hook-shaped locking element and an annular element 2 on an elongated element 1 shown in FIG 1 is represented in a broader context.
  • the installer attaches a member of the second set of bars by mating the hook-shaped locking element 8, 9 and the apertured annular connecting element 2.
  • FIG. 3 shows a preferred method of a next sequential step in the process of erecting the scaffolding system.
  • An additional member 1 of said elongate elements is attached to the opposite second end of said member of the second set of bars 6 using an apertured connecting element 2 on said additional member 1, and the junction between the coupling lock and said apertured connecting element 2 is consolidated.
  • this consolidation can be accomplished using a coupling head 13 and a wedge 14 resembling a preferred first type of coupling locks on said first set of bars 5, which in addition will secure the member of the second set of bars 6 against rotation circumferential to the longitudinal axis of the bar 6.
  • this member By elevating and manipulating the additional member 1 of said elongate elements, this member can be positioned in an end to end continuation with a corresponding member 1 from the preceding storey. In this preferred embodiment this manipulation can be carried out in any conceivable plane, since the pivotable coupling lock of the invention makes spherical manipulation of the bar of the second set viable within wide limits.
  • the member of the second set of bars is safely suspended between adjacent vertical posts. The coupling between said member of said second set of bars 6 and the additional member 1 of said elongate elements brought into position assures the locking of the pivotable coupling lock in the first end of the bar 6, since the hook- shaped portion 8 of the locking element prevents the bar 6 from being rotated and disengaged from the apertured connecting element.
  • FIG. 4 shows in a perspective view the versatility of the invention.
  • the installer shows a second method of attaching a bar from the second set 6 to an apertured connecting element 2 on a vertical post 1 on the working storey by twisting the bar 6 around the longitudinal axis, utilizing gravity for positioning the pivotable hook-shaped element 8 of the coupling lock.
  • the opposite end of the member 6 can be brought into contact with an apertured connecting element on an adjacent vertical post 1, most preferably the one on the vertical post protecting the installer, and be consolidated.
  • this consolidation can be accomplished using a coupling lock 13 and a wedge 14 resembling the coupling locks on the first set of bars 5, which in addition will secure the member of the second set of bars 6 against rotation circumferential to the longitudinal axis of the bar 6.
  • this method could be advantageous when installing a second or additional row of railings 6, since a first row of railing 6 could have been installed by said first method of installing a first member of the second set of bars 6.
  • the pivotable element in the shown embodiment is a hook type of catching device.
  • Said element has a straight portion 9 and a curved portion 8 preferably being manufactured in one piece by bending.
  • the axis c of the straight portion 9 is tangential to the centre curve d of the curved portion 8.
  • the pivotable element is manufactured from any rod-shaped material having an arbitrary, but symmetrical cross-section.
  • Particularly preferred said pivotable element is manufactured from a cylindrical material bended in one end to constitute the curved portion 8.
  • the curved portion 8 can be substantially circular bent, but other shapes are possible.
  • the pivotable element can be made of any rigid materiel with metal being preferred.
  • the open end portion of the curved portion 8 can be shaped like pointed to ease introduction into openings 3, 4 in the connecting element 2 in a scaffolding system.
  • the straight portion of the pivotable element 9 is conducted through the annular opening in the end portion and secured against axial displacement by means of lock washers, screws or welded disks 10 or any combination thereof. To assure smooth pivoting, a small axial clearance in the fixation can be advantageous
