Definitions
- the invention relates to a multilayer brush with the features mentioned in the preamble of claim 1.
- a multi-layer brush, in particular multi-layer carbon brush, of the aforementioned type is generally known as part of a DC motor.
- a DC motor is mechanically commutated and is used for example as a motor starter of an internal combustion engine.
- a switched-on current is fed by means of one or more pairs of brushes via a commutator or commutator in a rotor winding.
- the brushes of the brush pairs usually consist of a sintered material, which essentially has copper and graphite components. Both the brushes and the commutator are subject to wear during engine operation.
- the motor starter is typically designed for short-term operation per motor start and is suitable for 30,000 to 60,000 switching cycles.
- two-layer brushes for example, can be used.
- two different carbon brushes are pressed into a unit whose layers have a different copper content and accordingly have different resistivities. So far, in the combination of the two carbon brush layers, emphasis is placed on compliance with the switching cycles or switching numbers with regard to the standard operation of the engine start. In the design of the copper shares therefore criteria come into play, which with regard to the power and switching capacity to start the internal combustion engine in
- the multilayer brush according to the invention with the features mentioned in claim 1 offers the advantage that far higher values than the usual 30,000 to 60,000 switching numbers can be achieved.
- the improvement in the number of operations per unit length (mm) of usable carbon brush can be more than 50% of the previous wear length value per unit length (mm), so that above the number of operations of 60,000, a high additional number of starting operations of the internal combustion engine can be performed.
- the starting processes include mainly so-called repeat or warm starts on the one hand and equally so-called cold starts on the other.
- the copper content of the first layer should be selected in a ratio of ⁇ 3/2 compared with the copper content of the second layer.
- the proposed solution is characterized in that the performance of the internal combustion engine is maintained even at increased switching numbers without damaging and therefore undesirable substances such as lead, must be used.
- the second layer has a copper content of ⁇ 32 percent by weight (wt .-%), whereby an optimal ratio is given to the first layer, thereby ensuring above-average wear resistance of the multilayer brush.
- the composite of Graphitanteil and copper content is mixed with a lubricant.
- the lubricant is used here as a solid lubricant and thus also as a binder for the brush components.
- the first layer corresponds to a first partial brush and the second layer corresponds to a second partial brush.
- the respective layer can be produced separately and in the course of a mass production, in order to be subsequently united to the composite.
- the first layer and the second layer form a press bond. It can be based on a common, inexpensive and manageable joining method.
- Another advantage is the use of the multilayer brush in a DC motor, in particular motor starter, a motor vehicle, which has a start-stop automatic or start-stop function.
- the start-stop function By means of the start-stop function, the internal combustion engine in a start-stop operation, ie in a fuel-saving, but material-polluting operating mode, are driven.
- the start-stop function is used to shut down the internal combustion engine in the stance phase of the vehicle to reduce fuel consumption.
- the Control unit can in this case make a control of the start-stop system as a standalone device. It is also possible, for example, a function integration in an existing control unit of the motor vehicle.
- FIG. 1 the basic structure of a multilayer brush 10 is shown.
- the multilayer brush 10 consists of a composite which essentially has a graphite part and a copper part. Furthermore, the multilayer brush 10 is provided with a layered structure in which a first layer 11 has a high copper content and a second layer 12 has a comparatively low copper content.
- the first layer 11 serves as a power layer, while the second layer 12 is used as a commutation layer.
- the power layer is intended to carry the majority of a switched-on current and consequently has a relatively low resistance.
- the first layer 11 is therefore located on the incoming side of a so-called commutator and thus comes first with rotating commutator, ie even before the second layer 12, with another commutator in contact.
- the low resistance of this layer is produced by a relatively high copper content in the carbon brushes.
- the commutation layer that is to say the second layer 12
- the second layer 12 is therefore provided with less copper than the first layer 11.
- an electrically conductive wire 13 is arranged at one end of the multi-layer brush 10.
- a portion of a rotatably mounted commutator 14 is provided, which is in an electromechanical operative connection with the multi-layer brush 10.
- the direction of rotation of the commutator 14 corresponds to the clockwise direction.
- the unit of multi-layer brush 10 and commutator 14 is part of a DC motor 15, which is used in particular as a motor starter.
- the copper content of the first layer 11 compared to the copper content of the second layer 12 corresponds to a ratio of ⁇ 3/2.
- the second layer 12 may be made to have a copper content of ⁇ 32% by weight. Due to measurements, the ratio between the copper content of the power layer and the copper content of the commutation layer has proved to be a decisive factor. Accordingly, the share ratio is decisive in order to reliably achieve a high additional number of repeat starts, in particular warm starts of the internal combustion engine, beyond the usual shift number of up to 60,000 normal starts.
- the present and optimized proportion of copper components likewise causes an increase in the number of cold starts of the internal combustion engine.
- Increases in particular the necessary number of switching of the previously mentioned and connected to a 12 V power supply motor starter due to an operating mode, preferably start-stop operation, with frequent repetitive starts respectively warm starts the internal combustion engine, can thus increased material requirements with a targeted variation of the copper content in the carbon brush layers be taken into account in the sense of an improved material mixture.
- the achievable number of shift improvements per mm usable carbon brush can be more than 50% of the previous value per mm wear length.
- FIG. 2 12 is a normalized number of operations per carbon brush wear for a comparison of copper levels in the respective layer 11, 12 shown in the form of a diagram 16.
- a standardized number of engine starts, in particular quick starts, per carbon brush wear is given as the basis for evaluation.
- the respective ratio of the copper components of the power layer or of the commutation layer is plotted on the abscissa.
- On the vertical axis of the graph 16 are values in a range of 2 to 4 and on the horizontal axis of the graph 16 values of 1.5 to 1.7 are plotted.
- a curve 17 resulting from the individual measurement points represents the number of quick starts per mm carbon brush wear.
- the highest number of times of switching can be detected.
- carbon brush wear is lowest with a quotient of less than 3/2.
- the second layer 12 may be such that it has a copper content of ⁇ 32 weight percent. The share ratio or the value given from this is based on the measurement results of comparable carbon brushes and reflects only a part of the possible optimizations.
- the solution according to the invention comprises the copper ratio of the multi-layer brush 10, in particular two-layer carbon brush, which essentially has a composite with a graphite portion and a copper content and a layered structure, wherein a first layer 11 with a high copper content and a further layer 12 with a comparatively low copper content is provided.
- the copper content of the first layer 11 corresponds to a ratio of ⁇ 3/2 compared with the copper content of the second layer 12.

Description
- In
